To improve its Vertex AI platform, Google Cloud is collaborating with Mistral AI, a French AI startup, to include Mistral’s Codestral code generation methodology into its cloud-based AI service.
According to a Reuters story that cited the company’s official statement, “Today, we’re announcing that Google Cloud is the first hyper scaler to introduce Codestral — Mistral AI’s first open-weight generative AI model explicitly designed for code generation tasks — as a fully-managed service.”
“These additions continue Google Cloud’s commitment to open and flexible AI ecosystems that help you build solutions best suited to your needs,” the statement continued.

Mistral AI: What Is It?
Founded in 2023 by former Google Deep Mind and Meta AI experts, Mistral AI is a Paris-based firm. More than one billion euros have been raised in fundraising thus far.
Similar to Google, BNP Paribas, a major French bank, has teamed up with Mistral AI to leverage its language models in various business domains, including sales, IT, and customer service.
