In a significant step towards advancing President Biden’s executive order on AI, the U.S. government has partnered with NVIDIA to harness the power of the DGX SuperPOD for transformative generative AI research. President Biden’s executive order, issued in October, underscores the importance of maintaining U.S. leadership in AI while addressing associated risks. MITRE’s implementation of the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD marks a pivotal moment in this endeavor, providing researchers and developers with unprecedented access to high-performance computing capabilities.
“The recent executive order on AI encourages federal agencies to reduce barriers for AI adoption, but agencies often lack the computing environment necessary for experimentation and prototyping,” said Charles Clancy, senior vice president and chief technology officer at MITRE. “Our new Federal AI Sandbox will help level the playing field, making high-quality compute power available to any agency for training and testing custom AI solutions.”
The NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD system is capable of delivering an exaflop of 8-bit AI compute, performing a quintillion math operations each second. This immense computing power allows federal agencies to train large language models and other generative AI tools, paving the way for innovative applications.
“MITRE’s purchase of a DGX SuperPOD will help turbocharge the U.S. federal government’s development of its AI initiatives,” said Anthony Robbins, vice president of public sector at NVIDIA. “AI has enormous potential to improve government services for citizens and solve big challenges, like transportation and cybersecurity.”
The DGX SuperPOD will support the development of custom AI solutions at scale, providing researchers with the resources needed to advance AI applications in key areas. This supercomputing initiative comes as the White House announced a $110 million partnership, including NVIDIA, to help universities teach AI skills.
With NVIDIA’s DGX SuperPOD, the U.S. government is poised to make significant strides in generative AI, leveraging this advanced technology to address pressing issues and enhance public services.
