Search on ChatGPT is now free for all users

During the "12 days of OpenAI" event, OpenAI made the ChatGPT search function free for all users, enhancing latency and integrating natively on iPhones. Microsoft CEO praises OpenAI's progress in the search engine war.

The OpenAI made the ChatGPT search function available to all users for free on the eighth day of the “12 days of OpenAI.” When the feature was first introduced, only ChatGPT Plus users could use it.

By combining natural language interaction with the most recent information on sports, news, market quotations, and other topics, the function offers web search capabilities for prompt, accurate responses. Additionally, it makes the experience visually appealing and retrieves images for the prompt or search query.

Additionally, OpenAI demonstrated in the video that ChatGPT Search may be set as a web browser’s default search engine and stated that they had enhanced the feature’s latency in response to customer criticism.

Similar to Google, ChatGPT Search now uses visual cards to provide information about business listings, hours, and other details. Apple Maps and ChatGPT Search are integrated natively on the iPhone. There is a specific “map button” that opens Apple Maps with business information. Additionally, OpenAI disclosed that ChatGPT Search is compatible with the highly sought-after Advanced Voice Mode.

Additionally, a wealth of local directories and data on establishments, eateries, and other public spaces served as Google’s moat in the search engine game. OpenAI has made some progress in this area; will it eventually eliminate Google’s enduring edge?

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella noted in a recent podcast that Windows itself was ultimately responsible for Google’s victory in the search engine war. All because Chrome is a widely used web browser. It is quite absurd that we defeated Netscape just to fall short against Google. And now, with Edge and Co-Pilot, we are regaining it intriguingly,” he stated.

Additionally, he claimed that Microsoft had been attempting to negotiate a search agreement with Apple for a while, but that he was “most thrilled” when Apple finally chose OpenAI.

“We have a commercial and investor relationship with OpenAI, so ChatGPT should get that deal more than anybody else,” Nadella stated.

To provide ChatGPT with top-notch content, OpenAI has been collaborating with top media providers regularly. OpenAI has revealed plans to grow its publisher partnership program with Future and its more than 200 businesses. PC Gamer, TechRadar, Tom’s Guide, and The Week are notable properties.

This is on top of Conde Nest, which consists of publications like Wired, Vogue, and The New Yorker. Associated Press, Springer, The Atlantic, Vox Media, and others are other publications.

The original release also highlighted OpenAI’s collaboration with news and data providers, which helps add the most recent data and images for categories including weather, stocks, sports, news, and maps.

OpenAI had a lot to show off in the past few days. Beginning with the official release of Sora, an upgraded ChatGPT Canvas, a new Projects function, and the $200 ChatGPT Pro mode.

What will happen in 12 Days of OpenAI next? According to Kevin Weil, product lead at OpenAI, developers will be treated to a mini-dev day-style event on the ninth day.

OpenAI announced this week that they intend to incorporate function calling, developer messaging, structured outputs, and API image interpretation. Additionally, they stated that they are trying to support the O1 model through APIs. Will everything be done tomorrow?
