To attract more users to the primarily English-centric social network, Reddit is expanding machine learning-powered translations to over 35 new locations across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Reddit previously allowed users to translate individual posts across many languages, but this tool is the company’s first for French speakers and was launched over five months ago. Reddit currently lets users select their preferred display language, which changes the language of the Reddit interface as well as their chosen content language for post recommendations.

The news made today comes seven months after Reddit went public. While the company claims that both its user base and ad income are growing, the most obvious way to draw in additional users is to translate all of its material into more languages.
The main selling point of Reddit’s new translation function is that users can set up posts and comments to automatically translate from the native language of a community to their own language based on their Reddit preferences. This implies that users won’t have to translate each response by hand when a discussion occurs in a particular subreddit between two languages.
You can publish in whatever language you choose, and Reddit will automatically convert it into the pre-set language of the community as long as Reddit supports it.
Users in localities that are supported will be able to access information in their favorite language by clicking on the new translate item in their menu.

Posts that Reddit has translated will be marked as such, and viewers will have the option to see the original language versions of the posts if they so want.
Reddit announced that the content will be indexed in the available languages for search engines, so users who Google for answers to issues in their native tongue will also receive results from Reddit, just like it did with the translation of articles in French earlier this year.
Reddit does not list every language that it will support; however, as the translation service is currently accessible in Brazil and Spain, one might presume that Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish are supported as well, if just in those two nations.
Reddit also stated that “in the coming weeks,” it will be bringing AI-powered translations to markets around Latin America, the Philippines, Germany, and Italy.
