Microsoft's Copilot teams up with Suno, a Discord-based AI music creation tool, enabling users to generate custom songs swiftly. This partnership opens doors to effortless music composition through text prompts, enhancing the AI-driven music landscape.
Copilot and Suno Collaboration for Instant Song Generation
In a groundbreaking move, Microsoft’s AI chatbot Copilot has integrated with the AI music startup Suno to offer users the ability to effortlessly create custom AI-generated songs. Suno, based in Cambridge, has introduced a plug-in for its Discord-based music creation tool, allowing Copilot users to access Suno’s innovative composition capabilities.

To embark on their musical journey, Copilot users only need to sign on to their accounts and enable the Suno plug-in — or click on the logo that says, “Make music with Suno.” The process involves crafting a concise one- or two-line text prompt that encapsulates the desired theme for the song. For instance, users can request a folk song inspired by Alaskan summers or specify a song in the style of a particular artist, such as “write a song about cats in the style of Cat Power.” Upon inputting the prompt into Copilot, Suno swiftly generates an original song, typically lasting one to two minutes, accompanied by a transcript of the lyrics.
This integration is part of a larger trend in the tech industry, with various companies exploring generative AI music tools. Meta’s open-source AudioCraft and Google’s YouTube tool generate music based on text prompts or hummed tunes, respectively. Additionally, a plethora of AI music startups, including Soundful, Magenta, Beatbox, Soundraw, Loudly, Boomy, Beatoven.ai, and others, are introducing similar tools to the market.
While Suno imposes restrictions on free users, preventing them from monetizing AI-generated songs on platforms like YouTube or Spotify, paid users enjoy full commercial rights to their creations. It’s worth noting that Suno retains ownership of songs generated by free users, although sharing on non-commercial platforms and social media is permitted.
