Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI, began his first trip to India by emphasizing how AI companions are poised to develop a new category of digital experiences that are tailored to individual interests and distinct from anything that technology has produced yet. According to him, the goal was to develop an AI friend for everyone.
At the Microsoft Building AI Companions for India event in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Suleyman presented his vision for the future of artificial intelligence to a group of innovators and decision-makers. “Software has been mostly utilitarian for far too long. Speaking to the crowd, he stated, “My vision for AI has always been about how it can be a companion that can make every one of us feel more supported, smarter, and more capable.”
With the release of Microsoft’s updated Copilot last month, users may now communicate with Copilots in real-time, revolutionizing human-computer interaction. Users can begin their day with a news offering from Copilot Daily, which was also introduced in a few countries in October.

Copilot is the new AI user interface
With 87% of users reporting increased productivity, Copilot is revolutionizing efficiency, productivity, and results for both individuals and companies. Microsoft is witnessing the impact of Copilot on several company processes, including customer support and sales. Puneet Chandok, head of Microsoft India & South Asia, stated, “We now have evidence at scale. AI is leaving the labs and influencing lives and livelihoods while increasing productivity.”
Chandok discussed how generative AI is redefining whole industries, using Copilot as an example of how top IT companies are using it to reskill employees, expedite software development, and improve customer experiences. “But it’s about communities, not just business,” he continued.
The AI copilot from Microsoft Research India and the Sikshana Foundation has assisted educators in creating more captivating lesson plans and cutting down the time required from 90 minutes to 90 seconds. ITC’s Krishi Mitra chatbot is assisting farmers in increasing agricultural productivity. “We are proud to be creating an AI-powered country, one revolutionary step at a time, and this is just the beginning of AI’s journey in India,” Chandok stated.

Global AI innovation can be fueled by India’s skill pool
S Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, spoke at a fireside chat about the future of AI and its potential for India. He stated that the government’s March launch of the India AI mission aims to provide access to AI computing for everyone. The mission’s primary area is skilling, which the government sees as a genuine chance to propel an AI revolution not only in India but globally as well.
According to Suleyman, Microsoft has one of the best R&D teams in the world, and India is one of its fastest-growing markets. In addition to our highly skilled engineers and developers, we are progressively bringing in social scientists, psychologists, therapists, screenwriters, comedians, and other creatives. We can synthesize more viewpoints and have a more comprehensive picture of the individuals involved in the design and creative process because of this diversity,” he continued.
“AI will put knowledge at everyone’s fingertips, synthesized, distilled, and personally tuned to how an individual wants to learn and use information,” Suleyman said, referring to Copilot’s productivity. This is true both at home and at work. He went on to say, “M365 Copilot, for instance, already does an amazing job of reasoning over your work data.”

People will develop deep connections with their AI partners in the future, according to Suleyman. Even if our societies are set to undergo a major change, he urged that discussions about this begin early and emphasized that Microsoft’s approach to AI is centered on being proactive about safety and security.
