Georgia Tech and NVIDIA Launch First AI Makerspace Innovation for Students

Georgia Tech and NVIDIA are revolutionizing AI education with the launch of the AI Makerspace, a cutting-edge hub designed to empower students with hands-on experience in artificial intelligence

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering and NVIDIA have introduced the AI Makerspace, a cutting-edge hub dedicated to revolutionizing AI education. This innovative initiative marks a significant milestone in Georgia Tech’s commitment to fostering innovation and leadership in education. Read here for official release

The AI Makerspace serves as a digital sandbox, providing undergraduate students with hands-on access to advanced AI technology typically reserved for researchers and industry professionals. 

Powered by 20 NVIDIA HGX H100 systems and housing 160 NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs, this supercomputing hub offers students a gateway to high-performance computing environments for tackling real-world AI challenges.

Dean Raheem Beyah describes the AI Makerspace as a gateway for students to deepen their AI skills through practical experience, positioning them as future leaders in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence(AI)

Arijit Raychowdhury, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, emphasizes the transformative impact of this initiative, likening it to upgrading from an etch-a-sketch to an iPad in terms of technological advancement.

Undergraduate students enrolled in AI-related courses are already benefiting from the AI Makerspace, with plans to integrate it into the curriculum of all eight engineering schools. By spring 2025, all Georgia Tech engineering students, both undergraduate and graduate, will have access to this invaluable resource.

Additionally, the upcoming AI Makerspace Omniverse, set to launch in 2026, will further enhance learning opportunities by integrating augmented and virtual reality.

Looking ahead, Georgia Tech plans to expand the AI Makerspace with the introduction of the AI Makerspace Omniverse, a sandbox for augmented and virtual reality. This forward-thinking approach underscores the university’s commitment to providing students with cutting-edge tools and resources to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Through smart interfaces and inclusive strategies, Georgia Tech aims to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds and proficiency levels can effectively utilize the AI Makerspace, breaking down accessibility barriers and democratizing AI education for all.
