Krutrim, India’s AI: Bhavish Aggarwal, the CEO of Ola Electric, announced the imminent launch of Krutrim.

The exciting news about India’s first Artificial Intelligence system was shared on Twitter. He wrote, “India’s own AI, for building an AI-first economy! I’m really excited about showcasing it to all of you today. Reply with questions you’d like to ask Krutrim. We will select the most creative and interesting ones during the live stream today at 2:30 pm.”

CEO Aggarwal encouraged users to submit creative and interesting questions.

What is Krutrim?

Krutrim, designed by Krutrim AI Designs, is Ola’s base large language model, trained to understand and generate human language.

The name for India’s own AI for 1.4 billion Indians, Krutrim, is derived from the Sanskrit language and means ‘artificial.’ Ola, best known as a ride-hailing company, unveiled this AI platform to perform a wide range of language-related tasks, such as language translation, text summarization, and question-answering, among others.

The Large Language Model is classified into the Krutrim model and Krutrim Pro, the more powerful one.

The recently launched Krutrim is the company’s first family of AI models. In a span of three months, Krutrim is trained on more than 2 trillion ‘tokens.’Here, the token refers to the fundamental unit of input or output.

It usually includes individual words, subwords, characters, or other elements of a sequence, depending on the specific task or model architecture.

What are its advantages?

Krutrim, the AI model, holds great problem-solving strength and task-execution capabilities. It is built across text, voice, and vision and can even go beyond the abilities of large language models. A few other important features of India’s latest and very own AI platform are:

1. The AI model can understand 22 Indian languages and generate content in about 10, including Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia, and Gujarati.
2. It can perform a plethora of tasks, from generating content to booking tickets or managing customer support for businesses.
3. The voice-enabled model helps users interact with it through speech.
4. Krutrim is believed to have more Indic language support than GPT-4.
5. It also uses a custom tokenizer to interpret and translate languages and scripts.
6. In comparison to existing LLMs, the company claims that Krutrim outperforms all ranges of industry-standard benchmarks.

When will India’s own AI platform be launched?

Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of OLA, announced the release of Krutrim by the end of January 2024.

According to reports, it will be released to the public, unlocking access to Krutrim. Anyone can join the waitlist on the Krutrim website and be part of early batches from 15 December. 

Other than this, Krutrim Pro will be launched by the next quarter. Also, the Developer APIs will go live around February 2024.

Aggarwal, speaking at the event, mentioned that the company aims to create a platform for Indian developers to make worldwide apps using Krutrim. They’re introducing a public stack and AI cloud infrastructure for startups. Additionally, Aggarwal revealed the launch of a maps API for local businesses.
