Google Pixel 8 AI Feature Drop

In a surprising turn of events, Google has announced a significant update for Pixel 8 users, the introduction of Gemini Nano AI through an upcoming feature drop. According to the 9To5 Google report, this decision comes after a wave of online backlash from Pixel 8 owners, who voiced their disappointment over the company’s initial decision to restrict Gemini Nano to the Pixel 8 Pro.

Gemini Nano, a tier of Google’s Gemini AI system designed to run entirely on-device, will now be available for both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in a developer preview, with the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop expected in June. This move demonstrates Google’s responsiveness to user feedback and its commitment to enhancing the Pixel user experience

The on-device Gemini Nano AI will power two new features: Summarize in Recorder and Smart Reply in Gboard. These features are designed to offer higher-quality smart replies with conversational awareness, improving user interaction with messaging apps like WhatsApp, Line, and KakaoTalk on the Pixel 8 Pro.

Additionally, Summarize in Recorder will allow users to generate bullet points from recorded audio, enhancing productivity and organization.

Despite differences in RAM between the Pixel 8 (8GB RAM) and Pixel 8 Pro (12GB RAM), Google has ensured consistent user experiences by rigorously testing Nano on both devices.

By optimizing Nano’s performance on devices with varying memory specifications, Google aims to deliver seamless functionality across its Pixel lineup.

This update not only benefits end users but also provides opportunities for developers. With access to AICore on the Pixel 8, developers can harness the power of Nano for their own applications, unlocking new possibilities for innovation and creativity.

Gemini Nano’s arrival on the Pixel 8 marks a significant milestone in Google’s ongoing efforts to democratize AI technology and empower developers to leverage AI capabilities for their own applications through AICore.

With the Pixel Feature Drop in June, Pixel 8 users can look forward to enhanced functionality and improved AI-powered features, further elevating the Pixel experience.
