Study shows 60%+ Educators Now Use AI Tools in Classrooms

In response to the rapid evolution of the world fueled by Artificial Intelligence (AI), the education sector is transforming, with a substantial number of educators embracing AI tools for various purposes. According to a report titled “Revolutionizing Classrooms: The Impact of Generative AI on the Future of Education” by TeamLease EdTech, over 60% of educators in the country are leveraging AI tools for various educational purposes.

The study, which gathered responses from more than 6,000 educators, highlights that 63.61% of educators consider AI crucial for preparing students for the AI-dominated future of AI technology. However, a notable 9.49% express concerns about potential negative impacts, including decreased human interaction in teaching, over-reliance on technology, and worries regarding data privacy and information accuracy.

Despite these concerns, a significant majority (66.77%) of educators acknowledge the potential of AI tools for upskilling purposes. Furthermore, 70.85% of educators believe that AI has a more substantial influence than the revolutionary impact of smartphones, indicating its transformative power in education.

Shantanu Rooj, founder and CEO of TeamLease Edtech, emphasizes that AI is not just an emerging technology but a reality already reshaping classrooms across India. However, the report also reflects a nuanced perspective among educators, with over 80% expressing wariness towards AI technology and advocating for government regulation to address risks and ethical implications.

The study reveals that more than half of educators believe that AI training should be provided to teachers, as it can significantly reduce the time spent on class preparation. However, there is a consensus among respondents that the development and application of AI technologies should be closely monitored and regulated by the government to ensure ethical usage.

Puneet Bajpai, an educator, highlights the promising opportunities of AI tools like ChatGPT in education, such as personalized assistance, fostering critical thinking, and offering additional resources to students. However, Bajpai emphasizes the importance of careful implementation and consideration of ethical and privacy concerns for successful integration into educational settings.

The study underscores the increasing acceptance of AI tools in education while also highlighting concerns about their potential drawbacks. The majority of educators advocate for a balanced approach to AI use in classrooms, emphasizing the need for careful regulation and ethical considerations to maximize the benefits of these technologies while mitigating risks.
