Scarlett Johansson is surprised by the striking similarity between her voice and OpenAI's new chatbot. Discover her reaction and the implications of this advanced AI technology in mimicking human voices.
Scarlett Johansson Reacts to OpenAI Chatbot Voice Similarity
After OpenAI launched the chatbot, which has an “eerily similar” voice to Scarlett Johansson, the Hollywood star was angered as well as shocked. A week ago, OpenAI revealed the latest version of the artificial intelligence large language model, which is easier and smarter to use.
The well-known American actress, who is one of the world’s highest-paid in the year 2018 and 2019 Scarlett Ingrid Johansson finds the voice of the above-mentioned chatbot similar to her. She became very popular after she made several entries in Forbes Celebrity 100.
The incident happened after the new model, namely Sky, was revealed last week and thereafter commentators started drawing attention by saying Johansson’s 2013 film ‘Her’ has a similar tone to the chatbots. After that, OpenAI paused the update.
On Monday, OpenAI shared a post stating “We’ve heard questions about how we chose the voices in ChatGPT, especially Sky.” They also added, “We are working to pause the use of Sky while we address them.”
However, Scarlett Johansson reportedly said that the OpenAI CEO Sam Altman offered her last September, for ChatGPT 4.0 system’s voice. However, she has turned down the offer for personal reasons. She also said that OpenAI “reluctantly agreed” to pause on the update and take down the “Sky” voice after the former’s legal counsel sent OpenAI two letters.
The actress wrote, “In a time when we are all grappling with deepfakes and the protection of our likeness, our own work, and our own identities, I believe these are questions that deserve absolute clarity. I look forward to resolution in the form of transparency and the passage of appropriate legislation to help ensure that individual rights are protected.”
Answering this, Altman said, a different actress voiced “Sky” in a statement released on Monday. He revealed, “The voice of Sky is not Scarlett Johansson’s, and it was never intended to resemble hers,” He also added, “We cast the voice actor behind Sky’s voice before any outreach to Ms. Johansson. Out of respect for Ms Johansson, we have paused using Sky’s voice in our products. We are sorry, Ms Johansson that we didn’t communicate better.
The New York Times stated that in December, the company was planning to send legal notices to the corporation as they were alleged to have used “millions” of media organisation articles to train the ChatGPT AI model. However, renowned authors John Grisham and George R R Martin announced to claim that their copyright had been violated by training the system.
