Samsung is planning to expand some of the Galaxy AI features like ‘circle to search’ and ‘Slo-mo’ to its previous generation devices with the One UI 6.1 software update next month. However, ‘Instant Slo-mo’ remains restricted to the S23 and S24 series.
Samsung Galaxy AI features in phones
Samsung has plans to expand Galaxy Artificial Intelligence (AI) features to its last-generation phones, as per the reports by 9 to 5 Google and Android Central. The reports started floating in the market after a post from a Samsung representative on the Community Forum in Korea. It referred to the release of the One UI 6.1 software update with Galaxy AI features for devices launched in the years 2021 and 2022.
The Samsung One UI 6.1 update is scheduled for early May and will add almost all Galaxy AI features except for the Instant Slo-Mo video feature. This means the Galaxy S22 series, Flip 4, Fold 4, and Tab S8 series will have all the AI features as S23FE except the Instant Slo-Mo feature.

Samsung launched the Galaxy AI Instant Slo-Mo feature, which plays the video in slow motion once you tap it with the S24 series. The feature is missing in the FE series of Samsung phones.
Samsung Phones launched in the year 2021, i.e., S21, S21 Plus, S21 Ultra, Flip 3, and Fold 3 will get an update to only 2 features of Galaxy AI – Circle to search and Magic Rewrite. Galaxy AI requires a lot of Hardware modifications, which these last-generation phones can’t support. That’s why the S21 series will only get an update to two Galaxy AI features accessible through cloud computing services, making it a messy generative edit.
Samsung’s plan for the expansion of Galaxy AI features to its old flagship devices will cater to a wider audience,e especially those who cannot afford to buy a new smartphone now and then. Even though not all Galaxy AI features will be available to all users, if you have any of the above-mentioned series then definitely there is a good news for you.

This move by Samsung may prove to be a learning experience for other competitors in the market who can also offer artificial intelligence features to older model phones with a software update. There might be issues with hardware support, but at least happy to be able to access some of the Gen AI features.
Samsung’s decision to include older phones for AI feature updates will increase the user’s trust in the brand, increase its market due to the longevity of the product, and show its dedication to customer satisfaction.
