Nvidia Introduces NIMs to Simplify AI Integration for Businesses

Nvidia Corp., the world's most expensive chipmaker, unveils NIMs (Nvidia inference microservices) to simplify generative AI adoption for diverse industries, revealed at the Siggraph conference.

The most expensive chipmaker in the world, Nvidia Corp., has revealed several software upgrades aimed at facilitating the adoption of generative artificial intelligence by a greater range of industries.

The chip manufacturer formally unveiled what it refers to as NIMs, or Nvidia inference microservices, which are software bundles that handle a number of the practical concerns associated with using AI for a particular use case. The technology known as “generative AI,” which powers speech recognition, chatbots, and other automated human-computer interactions, frequently necessitates the coordination of several hardware, software, and information retrieval components.

Nvidia is attempting to provide that service for businesses at a cost because many lack the necessary experience.

At the Siggraph conference in Denver on Monday, Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the company’s newest products. Seeking to convince as many businesses as possible to start adopting his technology and make AI ubiquitous in the economy, he is making his next presentation at the graphics technology conference. He will later be joining CEO Mark Zuckerberg of Meta Platforms Inc. on stage at the conference.

The rush in developing new systems being implemented to assist artificial intelligence computing is mostly due to Nvidia’s CPUs. In the previous fiscal year, the company’s revenue doubled, and it is expected to do so again this year.

Its Nvidia AI Enterprise solution, which costs $4,500 per graphics processor utilized annually, includes the software and services. The services and software are made to function with Nvidia hardware.

“The Nvidia NIM is a comprehensive solution for deploying generative AI that is built for applications at scale and simplified for developers,” stated Kari Briski, vice president of product management at Nvidia for software development kits for AI and HPC.

Approximately 100 inference microservices were accessible in the preview, and Nvidia is now making full versions public. For example, by improving the software’s comprehension of text instructions, Getty Images Holdings’ services are generating higher-resolution images. The Edify three-dimensional picture generator from Shutterstock Inc. is now online and can react to both text and images.

According to Nvidia, knowledge workers mostly employ AI to assist with digital activities. Nvidia is releasing software and services that will enable users of Apple Inc.’s Vision Pro headset, for example, to construct virtual worlds and spread awareness of generative AI. According to Nvidia, so-called virtual twins will replace the requirement for engineers to perform labour-intensive tasks like teaching robotic machines to behave more like humans.
