Tech Giant Microsoft has launched “Auto Dev”, an “Automated AI-driven deployment” to set a new framework for the software development industry. From planning to deployment, Auto Dev can perform software engineering tasks, redefining the roles and responsibilities of software engineers in Artificial Intelligence

Auto Dev offers multiple autonomous AI agents with the ability to execute different actions, such as file retrieval, editing, testing, building, and CLI commands, directly within the repository to achieve objectives defined by the user. 

Auto Dev enables the completion of complex tasks autonomously, earlier developers needed to manually validate syntax, execute codebases, ensure the correctness of Artificial Intelligence generated code, and inspect errors.

At the launch event, Microsoft’s spokesperson said, “Auto Dev enables users to define complex software engineering objectives and assigns them to autonomous AI agents, empowering them to achieve these objectives with unparalleled efficiency.”

What are the key features of auto-development?

  • Conversation Manager: Auto Dev can track and manage the user and AI agent conversations through the conversation manager.
  • Customized Tools: Auto Dev provides a library of customized tools to complete SE-related objectives and a variety of codes.
  • Agent Scheduler: Auto Dev can schedule various AI agents to work collaboratively towards a common objective using the Agent Scheduler feature.
  • Evaluation Environment: Auto Dev can also execute code and run tests.

When assessed for its capabilities, Auto Dev showed incredible accuracy and efficiency. It achieved a pass-one code generation score of 91.5% and an 87.8% success rate on the human evaluation dataset. Auto Dev shows promising results in automating engineering tasks while maintaining a safe and secure environment for user development.
