Along with a number of other features like AI backdrops, Meta has announced that it is bringing its Messenger app up to speed with other well-known smartphone video-calling apps. These capabilities include HD video calling and noise suppression.
While HD video calling is enabled by default on Wi-Fi, you can activate it in the “Call settings” menu for calls made using your cell data plan. Additionally, there are options to change the audio output of your call or modify noise cancellation.
Meta enhances the Messenger app with HD video calling, noise suppression, and AI backgrounds, enabling users to leave voice or video messages for unanswered calls and using Siri voice assistant.

According to Meta, users will now be able to leave voice or video messages. To leave a video message for unanswered video calls or an audio message for unanswered audio calls, tap the “Record message” button.
These functions have already been included in apps like Google Meet, Zoom, and FaceTime—and in some cases, for years. AI-generated backgrounds are no different, at least for Zoom and Meet.
To try them in Messenger, simply tap the effects icon in the sidebar of a call, enter your desired background in a prompt box, and Meta AI will create it for you. Meta has been using AI picture production on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger chats, among other platforms.
Finally, Meta has integrated Apple’s Siri voice assistant for hands-free messaging and calling. Asking Siri to make a call or send a text should use Meta’s app rather than one of Apple’s built-in ones if you include a phrase like “using Messenger” at the end.
