Meet ‘Hanooman’: India’s AI Powerhouse is Now Available to Download

HANOOMAN.AI, India’s own AI tool, has just been launched! It can understand 98 different languages, making it really smart with languages. Created by SML & 3AI, Hanooman AI is designed to help industries like healthcare, government, finance, and education. It can translate languages in real-time, understand the context of conversations, and work smoothly with other software. This AI could change the way we communicate across different cultures and help businesses grow internationally.

With the introduction of OpenAI’s ambitious artificial intelligence (AI) tool, Sora, AI-ML companies all over the world have amplified their work and research to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. BharatGPT, an AI model backed by the richest man in India, is set to launch a large language model like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT in March. 

Hanooman is an ambitious AI project backed by Reliance Jio, the telecom giant helmed by Mukesh Ambani. It is named after the legendary Hindu god known for his strength, intellect, and devotion.

Hanooman, India’s generative AI platform, has launched in 98 languages. Android users can now use the fully functional multilingual web platform and app, with an iOS version expected to be released soon.

What is Hanooman?

Hanooman is a large language model (LLM), similar to popular LLM models like GPT. But unlike its Western counterparts, it is designed to understand and generate text in 11 Indian languages, although it is trained in all 22 officially recognized languages. Developed through a collaboration between Reliance and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), this project aims to create an indigenous AI solution, catering to the unique needs and challenges of the incredibly diverse country.

It is developed by BharatGPT, a research cooperative led by IIT Bombay and seven other IITs. It is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, SML, and Reliance Jio.

What can it do?

Hanooman possesses capabilities similar to other LLMs. This includes generating creative text formats like poems, code, scripts, or even answering your questions in an informative way. It also offers advice on these four fields:

1. Healthcare
2. Governance
3. Financial Services
4. Education

During the annual Nasscom IT industry conference, Ganesh Ramakrishnan, the chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, stated that the model will also have speech-to-text capabilities, making it much more user-friendly.
