OpenAI to Introduce AI Search Engine Before Google’s I/O

OpenAI is set to launch an AI-powered search product, potentially challenging Google's dominance. The announcement is expected to occur one day before Google's annual I/O conference, which is expected to highlight its AI model offerings.

There have been long-circulating reports that OpenAI is developing a rival search engine to Google. Furthermore, OpenAI may launch its AI-powered search solution as early as Monday, according to a Reuters story. The development, which is anticipated to occur on May 13, was disclosed to Reuters by two people who are familiar with the situation.

Interestingly, this occurs precisely one day ahead of Google’s annual I/O conference, where the tech giant is anticipated to reveal some significant AI-related news. The story also notes that the date may alter, and OpenAI refuses to address the rumours.

This new search capability will greatly increase ChatGPT’s utility, as previously suggested by the Bloomberg report. Users will be able to ask questions and get replies that include citations from sources like Wikipedia and different blogs in addition to drawing from pertinent online content.

It is anticipated that the feature will also include diagrams and other visual aids to enhance the instructions even more. Curiously, since ChatGPT’s debut, it has been perceived as a rival to Google Search because users believed that posing questions to ChatGPT and receiving a prompt response would be far simpler than clicking on those blue links.

Nevertheless, this was never truly the case because of ChatGPT’s inaccurate information, which required users to double-check their information before taking it at face value. In ChatGPT, a brief caution appears just below the prompt box and reads, “ChatGPT is not perfect. Verify pertinent information.”

It will be interesting to watch how OpenAI competes with Google in the search business if it does release a search product shortly. Google is without a doubt the dominant player in the internet search market, a fact that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella previously acknowledged when he referred to Google as the “800-pound gorilla” in the market. Pichai leads this tech powerhouse.
