Uncover the shocking truth behind Israel's use of artificial intelligence named "Lavender," in targeting thousands of Gazans for assassination. The Lavender system operates, the devastating impact on civilians, and the ethical implications revealed by intelligence sources.
Lavender the AI Bombing Machine
In a groundbreaking investigation, it has been uncovered that Israel’s military has been utilizing an artificial intelligence (AI) based program called “Lavender” to target individuals for assassination in the Gaza Strip. This AI system, introduced for the first time by the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and Local Call, marks tens of thousands of Palestinians, including low-ranking operatives, as potential bombing targets with little human oversight.
Authored by the commander of Israel’s elite intelligence unit 8200, the concept behind Lavender was to create a machine capable of rapidly processing vast amounts of data to generate thousands of potential targets for military strikes, effectively eliminating what was deemed a “human bottleneck” in decision-making processes. However, what unfolded was a disturbing reality where human oversight was minimal, and casualties were alarmingly high.

During the initial weeks of the conflict, the Israeli army heavily relied on Lavender, marking tens of thousands of Palestinians, including low-ranking operatives, as potential bombing targets. Shockingly, the military largely treated the outputs of Lavender “as if it were a human decision,” according to sources familiar with the program. Despite knowing that the system has a margin of error, military personnel often only spent seconds verifying targets before authorizing bombings.
Compounding the tragedy, the Israeli army systematically targeted individuals in their homes, often at night while their families were present. This approach was facilitated by additional automated systems like “Where’s Daddy?” which tracked targets and carried out bombings when they entered their family residences.

Moreover, the army’s preference for using unguided “dumb” bombs on alleged junior militants further exacerbated the civilian death toll. The army even relaxed the permitted number of civilians who could be killed during the bombing of a target, leading to the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, including women and children.
This revelation sheds light on the increasingly automated and indiscriminate nature of modern warfare, where AI systems dictate life-and-death decisions with minimal human oversight. The consequences are dire, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt of military actions that prioritize efficiency over ethical considerations.
As the world grapples with the ethical implications of AI in warfare, the case of Lavender serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for international scrutiny and regulation to prevent further humanitarian crises in conflict zones.
