The new "Jump Ahead" function on YouTube is currently available for US subscribers to test out. The feature is limited to English-language videos and is only available on the YouTube Android app.
YouTube Jump Ahead feature
According to a recent report, YouTube is testing a new feature that allows users to jump, with the help of artificial intelligence, to the point of a video where most people start watching.
According to 9to5Google, a limited subset of YouTube Premium subscribers tested the “Jump Ahead” function back in March. However, as of right now, the tool is available to a wider audience via the YouTube Labs page. We’re not quite sure how “small” the initial experiment was because some users automatically opted in when YouTube launched it.
Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) and watch data, YouTube can now identify important areas of interest in videos, such as the parts that viewers commonly skip and the ones where they pay attention. The new feature, which leverages the double-tap-to-skip functionality that is already widely used on the YouTube app, is simple to use.

In the lower-right corner of a video, there will be a “jump ahead” button once you have double-tapped to skip. However, the button does vanish, in case viewers merely wish to fast-forward through a short segment of the film.
The video will “jump you to where most viewers typically skip ahead to” when you touch the button. In addition, the film will have an overlay, akin to Premium control features, that reads “Jumping over commonly skipped section” and features the Premium logo.
For the majority of viewers, this option could allow them to skip to the most popular video or save seconds during a timed viewing. However, it’s crucial to remember that this feature seems to work best with videos that have a lot of views to discover noteworthy portions.

Furthermore, the US version of the YouTube Android app and English-language videos are the only ones that may use the Jump Ahead feature. To participate in the experiment, premium subscribers must go to the YouTube Labs page or adjust their settings on the YouTube App. Although June 1, 2024, is the experiment’s scheduled end date, we expect that it may be extended.
Similar to the “Ask” function that made its YouTube Premium debut at the end of last year, the new Jump Ahead feature trial is available. AI was also utilized in this function, which assisted viewers in asking questions about videos and summarizing comments through a conversational chatbot.
