Google Released “Learn About” Experimental AI Tool Featuring Responses in an Educational Style

Google presents Learn About, an experimental AI application that addresses misconceptions, presents interactive knowledge in a visual style, and uses LearnLM's big language model. It is presently accessible in the United States.

Google unveiled a brand-new experimental artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed to assist users in learning new subjects. The application, called Learn About, differs from the internet giant’s standard AI products, like Gemini or AI Overviews, which are located in Mountain View.

The experimental tool selects data from educational sources and presents the information in an interactive, visual fashion. Rather than employing the Gemini AI models, the LearnLM large language model (LLM) is used in the construction of the Google Learn About AI product.

In a sign-up page, the tech giant described the Learn About tool. Google described the experimental gadget as a “conversational learning companion” that will assist users in achieving their learning objectives. At the moment, only a limited number of users in the US have access to the site; people in other regions are not.

It’s interesting to note that the tech giant’s AI tool uses a different AI model called LearnLM. When the AI model was introduced at the Google I/O event, the corporation said that it was more based on research and educational data and that it was designed with human learning in mind.

The Verge tested the tool and discovered that the same prompt shared with Gemini and Learn About produced significantly different output. For one particular prompt, Gemini reportedly displayed a response quoting Wikipedia, while Learn About shared an image from an educational website and added related content to enable users to delve deeply into the topic and related concepts.

The AI tool is said to also avoid the common hallucinations experienced by Google’s AI models. Learn About additionally provides interactive guides on complex topics where users can systematically navigate through a series of concepts to understand them fully. Additionally, it draws attention to common misconceptions about the subject to assist users in avoiding them.

In addition, Google has updated the Gemini app with a new Utilities extension. Through the extension, Android devices’ Gemini AI assistant will be able to manage smartphone operations. It can operate third-party apps and features, including the camera, audio control, timer, alarm, and more.
