Apple Took over Canadian AI Statup Darwin and plans to make big GenAI move with iOs 18 update

Apple acquired a Canadian startup known as Darwin to uplevel its AI game. It plans to integrate Gen AI tools into its new iOS and Mac updates utilizing the expertise and technology from Darwin.

Apple recently bought DarwinAI, a Canadian Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup company with a plan to make a big move in the GenAI market with its upcoming iOS 18 update. The acquisition happened silently earlier this year with Darwin’s employees moving to join the Apple AI division. Alexander Wong the researcher behind Darwin AI development is joining as the director in the AI division at Apple as per the reports by Bloomberg.

DarwinAI’s key feature is making things compact and easy using generative AI technology. It focused on using AI for visually inspecting components while manufacturing. Apple plans to incorporate DarwinAi technology into its system and work on the device rather than just using AI for the cloud. When Apple was approached to know about the update they just said that the company keeps on purchasing these smaller companies from time to time and did not reveal any intention behind this move.

Apple is lagging way behind in the field of generative AI as compared to its competitors OpenAI, Microsoft, and others. Last year also apple acquired more than 32 AI companies. This year Apple is looking to Break new ground in the field of AI as per the comment by Tim Cook, CEO and chief executive of Apple.

With the help of Darwin AI, Apple plans to integrate more and more features of generative AI into its upcoming iOS 18 update and mac15 update later this year. We will most probably be able to preview it at Apple’s WWDC in June this year where it talks about its latest version update. The company is working on enhancing Siri’s functionality, Apple Music, Spotlight search, messages, and shortcuts. It also plans to develop AI features to manipulate, edit, and enhance still images on prompts in natural language. Apple also plans to integrate genAI to process customer service requests, complete blocks of text, and auto-generating presentations.

Apple has made big investments in the field of generative AI and is looking forward to iOS 18 and Mac updates, expecting it to prove a game changer in the field of AI. Apple is also working on Xcode programming software which will help coders in coding using AI.
