Anthropic Presents Claude as the Student and Academic Staff Education Plan

Anthropic has launched Claude for Education, a subscription tier for higher education institutions featuring a customized chatbot, complete campus access, and a unique Learning Mode feature. The platform, partnered with Infrastructure and Internet2, aims to develop responsible AI adoption in educational settings.

Claude for Education, a new subscription tier, was unveiled by Anthropic on Wednesday. According to the artificial intelligence (AI) company, a customized version of its chatbot targeted at higher education institutions would be part of the strategy.

Universities can also choose complete campus access with this tier, allowing academic staff, administrative personnel, and students to use the AI chatbot for their designated tasks. Additionally, students will have access to a unique learning mode feature that guides them toward the solution rather than giving them answers straight away.

What are the new features in the Claude for Education Tier?

The internet behemoth with headquarters in San Francisco described its new tier in a newsroom article. There is no set monthly cost for Claude for Education, in contrast to the company’s consumer-focused services. Educational institutions can contact Anthropic’s Education team to receive a quote depending on their demands and campus size, just like with its enterprise offering.

The new Learning Mode function is one of the subscription tier’s primary features. The new mode, which is available within Projects, is intended to assist students in gaining a deeper comprehension of subjects and thought processes. When a student poses an academic query to the chatbot, it acts as a guide to assist the student in coming up with the answer independently.

To assist users in offering proof to back up their conclusions, the mode also emphasizes the Socratic method of questioning. According to Anthropic, the Learning Mode will help students develop their fundamental ideas and offer organized formats for study aids, research papers, and other assignments.

According to Anthropic, teachers may also utilize Claude to generate questions of different levels of difficulty, produce visual resources for lesson planning, and give students personalized feedback on their essays. Additionally, it asserts that administrative personnel can analyze enrollment trends, automate repetitive email responses to frequently asked questions, and streamline procedures by utilizing the AI chatbot.

Anthropic has also teamed with educational technology business Infrastructure, which has developed the educational platform Canvas, and Internet2, a non-profit that offers cloud and secure solutions. The business is attempting to incorporate its AI chatbot into the system.

The London School of Economics and Political Science, Northeastern University, and Champlain College have already agreed to full campus access agreements with the AI company. Additionally, Northeastern University and Anthropic are collaborating to “develop frameworks for responsible AI adoption in educational settings, new AI-powered education tools, and best practices for AI integration in higher education.”
