AMD is set to compete with its rival NVIDIA by introducing its latest AI chips. They have already made a two-year plan to take on the market leader, NVIDIA. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, made a bold statement at the Computex Technology trade show in Tapei, unveiling the MI325X accelerator, which will be available in Q4 of this year.

AI chips have more demand than NVIDIA, as they have rapidly developed AI programs. AMD and NVIDIA plan to make upgraded chips and introduce new technologies every year. Even though AMD has made a 14% increase in their shares and NVIDIA only by 3%, NVIDIA is still massively dominant by having an 80% share in the AI Chip market.

Upcoming AI Chip Series
AMD also announced two new chip series, the MI350 and MI400, at the Computex Event. The MI350, coming in 2025, is expected to perform much better than the current chips as they will be based on a new architecture. Compared to the other MI300 series chips, these MI350 will perform 35 times better.
The MI400 series will arrive in 2026. Nvidia also has plans for a new AI chip platform called Rubin, which will be released in 2026. They have named the architecture for this series “Next”
Lisa Su said, “AI is clearly our number one priority as a company, and we have harnessed all of the development capability within the company to do that,”. She also added, “This annual cadence is something that is there because the market requires newer products and newer capabilities… Every year we have the next big thing, such that we always have the most competitive portfolio.”
Investors are keen on the future of AI chips, with AMD and Nvidia shares witnessing significant growth. AMD expects to make $4 billion in AI chip sales this year, while Nvidia’s shares have increased even more.
AMD has also unveiled its new plan to make a new series of processors termed Neural Processing Units at the same event.
While AMD and Nvidia are competing to make the best AI chips in the market, both companies have announced their plans and their upcoming chips for the future. This competition is good for the AI and computer chip industries, as it leads to better and more advanced technology.
