Amazon’s AI Ready Free Courses: Aims to train 2M by 2025

Amazon's "AI Ready" initiative represents a major step towards democratising AI education, addressing the increasing demand for AI skills, and empowering individuals of all ages to harness the potential of artificial intelligence in their careers and beyond.

Amazon has unveiled its ambitious “AI Ready” commitment, intending to offer free AI skills training to 2 million people worldwide by 2025. The initiative aims to democratize access to AI education, recognizing the transformative power of artificial intelligence in addressing global challenges.

The three core components of the AI Ready initiative include:

Eight New and Free AI Courses:

Amazon is introducing eight new and free AI and generative AI courses, catering to a broad audience from foundational to advanced levels. These courses, aligned with in-demand jobs, are designed to support professionals in the workplace. They cover areas such as prompt engineering, low-code machine learning, language models, and applications using Amazon Bedrock.

AWS Generative AI Scholarship:

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is providing over $12 million in scholarships through the AWS Generative AI Scholarship. More than 50,000 high school and university students from underserved and underrepresented communities globally will have access to a new generative AI course on Udacity. The scholarship aims to empower students with the skills needed for the AI-driven future job market.

Collaboration with Code.org:

Amazon is collaborating with Code.org to launch the “Hour of Code Dance Party: AI Edition.” This initiative offers an accessible and fun introduction to coding and AI for students during Computer Science Education Week. The activity allows students to create virtual dance choreography using AI prompts, fostering an early interest in generative AI.

The need for AI skills in the workforce is emphasized by a study conducted by AWS and research firm Access Partnership, indicating that 73% of employers prioritize hiring AI-skilled talent.

However, three out of four employers express challenges in meeting their AI talent needs. The study also highlights the potential for workers to earn up to 47% more in salaries by upskilling in AI, reflecting the growing demand for AI expertise.

Amazon’s AI Ready commitment aligns with its broader initiative to invest in cloud computing skills training. AWS has committed to investing hundreds of millions of dollars to provide free cloud computing skills training to 29 million people by 2025. With a current track record of having trained more than 21 million individuals, Amazon aims to equip the workforce with both AI and cloud computing skills, addressing the evolving demands of the digital era.

Amazon’s AI Ready initiative represents a significant step towards democratizing AI education, making it accessible to individuals across diverse backgrounds and skill levels. By removing cost barriers and collaborating with educational partners, Amazon seeks to empower a global workforce with the skills necessary to harness the full potential of artificial intelligence.
