AI in Healthcare: IIIT Hyderabad’s Certificate Course to Bridge Knowledge Gaps for Doctors

The way doctors diagnose, treat, and manage patients is changing as a result of the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based on machine learning in the healthcare industry. But a lot of doctors don’t have the knowledge and abilities needed to use these tools well. 

By giving healthcare practitioners the skills and information they need to comprehend, assess, and use AI in clinical settings, IIIT Hyderabad has launched a certificate course named AI in Healthcare, which aims to close this knowledge gap and improve patient care as well as operational effectiveness.

The next batch of applications will start in January 2025.

Aim of AI in Healthcare Course:

• Awareness of, appreciation for, and familiarity with AI techniques and technologies’ uses in healthcare.
• Raising awareness of the governance and ethical concerns around AI in medicine.

Who can Apply?

• Academic staff and health care providers (MD, MS, MCh, DM, MDS).
• Students pursuing postgraduate medicine (MBBS, BDS)

Qualifications:

• Fundamental knowledge of clinical practice and healthcare procedures
• A desire to comprehend how contemporary technology affects healthcare.

Course contents

• Module 1: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare
• Module 2: Basics of Machine and Deep Learning (ML & DL)
• Module 3: Clinical Applications
• Module 4: Ethics and Governance of AI

Delivery of Courses and Certification

• Lectures: Each week, four 15-minute videos comprising around an hour of content are released as pre-recorded lectures to allow participants to study at their own pace.
• Contact Sessions: A weekly one-hour online contact session that includes a Q&A period, live case study demonstrations, tutorials on the topics covered in the video lectures, and a summary of the lecture content.
• AI application demos: During the contact sessions, basic AI applications that are pertinent to healthcare are discussed.
• Estimated weekly study time: three hours.
• Course Assessment: Before the contact session, there will be quick tests and assignments to finish from the course videos. Assessment conducted after the training to gauge learning results.
• Certification: NAMS and IIIT-H shall jointly provide a certificate of course completion upon the successful completion of the lectures, contact sessions, and exams.
