AI-generated E- books pose a big problem on Amazon Kindle Unlimited; Why authors are raising red flags?

Amazon struggles with a high volume of AI-generated books. These AI-generated books have flooded Kindle Unlimited which is reported by several authors across the world.

AI-generated digital books are emerging as a great challenge for the online digital publishing industry which is free. Recently, Amazon Kindle Unlimited has faced the same challenge as the number of authors has increased many folds with their AI-generated novels. Astonishingly,  many AI-Generated Novels are showing up in best-seller lists on Amazon.

Amazon has issued the statement that they are looking into the concerns raised by some authors across the world. And, also said, the company has clear guidelines for what books will be placed for sale. Amazon further stated that it will look into any complaints in order to safeguard both readers and writers.

Many authors highlighted that Amazon is being flooded with books entirely written by AI which will pose a great threat to the digital publishing industry. They are demanding that Amazon should check this and brings stricter norms for authenticated books written by authors who are Human, not AI.

The Amazon spokesperson said, “We invest heavily to provide a trustworthy shopping experience and to protect customers and authors from abuse. We have clear content guidelines governing which books can be listed for sale and promptly investigate any book when a concern is raised. We invest heavily to provide a trustworthy shopping experience and to protect customers and authors from abuse.”

The AI-generated E-Books are in the Amazon Kindle best-seller list, highlighted by Author Caitlyn Lynch. She has also shared her findings on her Twitter handle.

“The AI bots have broken Amazon. Take a look at the Best Sellers in the Teen & Young Adult Contemporary Romance ebook’s top 100 chart. I can see 19 actual legit books. The rest are AI nonsense clearly there to click farm,” Lynch wrote in her tweet.

A similar incident has been reported by many authors across the world. Moreover, several news outlets have recently reported a significant increase in AI-generated books in multiple best-seller lists.

Self-publishing platforms like Amazon’s Kindle Direct Program have been developed for new authors to reach readers and gain a following without the aid of a major publisher. Many authors use self-publishing platforms to promote their creativity and gain a reader pool to gain popularity.

Easy to sign up and publish without any verification, making these self-publishing platforms vulnerable where anyone can upload endless AI-written books and put them to sell on Amazon’s eBook store or make them available for reading via Kindle Unlimited.
