What is ChatGPT’s new voice feature and how does it read responses for you?

Sam Altman’s OpenAI has released a brand-new feature for its large language model (LLM) ChatGPT. On March 4, 2024, the artificial intelligence (AI) research and development company announced a “Read Aloud” feature that can read responses to you. The recently introduced feature is now accessible through the web version of ChatGPT, as well as on the iOS and Android applications, allowing users to make use of its functionalities.

OpenAI announced the rollout of this feature through a post on X. The pot read, “On iOS or Android, tap and hold the message and then tap “Read Aloud”. We’ve also started rolling on web – click the “Read Aloud” button below the message.”

GitHub Copilot vs. ChatGPT: What are the Key Differences Between them?

This latest feature is available across 37 different languages and boasts an automatic language detection feature, ensuring it tailors the output to the language used in the conversation. While there are many add-on features available only for premium GPT-4 users, Read Aloud is available in both GPT-4 and GPT-3.5. In other words, the Read Aloud feature is free and can be used by everyone.

How to use the Read Aloud feature on ChatGPT?

Here is how you can use the “Read Aloud” feature on ChatGPT:

  1. Open ChatGPT on your preferred platform – be it your web browser, Android device, or iOS gadget.
  1. Go ahead and input a text prompt in the language of your choice. ChatGPT is versatile and can handle various languages to accommodate your preferences.
  1. Wait for ChatGPT’s response to your prompt. The model will generate a relevant and context-specific reply to your input.
  1. Tap and hold the reply. This will prompt a menu to appear, where you need to select “Read Aloud.”
  1. And you are done. ChatGPT will read out loud its reply to you. You will be able to play, pause, and even rewind the LLM’s readout.

15 Ideas to Build a Successful Startup With ChatGPT in 2024

Last year in September 2023, OpenAI introduced a voice chat feature in ChatGPT. This feature enables you to read your prompts aloud, converting them to text. This feature eliminated the necessity of typing. And now the Read Aloud allows you to listen to the responses from ChatGPT, making it even more convenient for users with accessibility issues or who prefer auditory input. This feature enhances the overall user experience.

Interestingly, this new feature has been rolled out after Anthropic, OpenAI’s biggest competitor, announced the release of Claude-3. The newest version of Claude AI is considered to be the pinnacle of large language models (for the time being). It exhibits increased proficiency in managing text, voice messages, and documents. Claude also generates faster and more contextual responses as compared to other LLMs.

A month ago, OpenAI released Sora, a text-to-video generating tool that is hailed as the greatest AI video generator available to date. Though it has not been made publicly available, is expected to revolutionize the way videos are created and shared online. It produces eerily realistic videos that appear too authentic to be generated by an AI.
