The Milkyway Tablet is an educational tablet introduced by the non-profit organisation Epic Foundation. This first ‘designed in India’ was launched to meet the needs of students and school children. It is a highly sustainable and locally designed educational technology that focuses on repairability and upgradability, aiming to reduce electronic waste and ownership costs.

During the tablet launch, S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, said, “It is a matter of great pride that we are launching an India-designed, India-inspired education tablet that will be of great use to a vast majority of students. It will inspire the youth to take up the mantra of design and making things in India, for India and the world.”

The education tablet is designed to be an active facilitator of digital learning. It is the first of its kind to be integrated into a virtual assistant. Also, it will highlight AI/ML-based inter-lingual translation for Indian languages to support the language diversity of India, which encompasses citizens with disabilities.
