Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference 2024 (WWDC) online is set to begin on June 10, 2024. The event will start at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) at Apple Park in California with a keynote by CEO Tim Cook. 

In the previous year’s conference, Apple introduced its Vision Pro. This year, all eyes will be on this conference to see what steps Apple will take to participate in the race of generative artificial intelligence (AI). 

Free to all developers, the WWDC24 will highlight the newest improvements in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. In contrast to the Vision Pro, which was a hardware-heavy event last year, it is speculated that this year’s event will focus on software upgrades. Here is what we can expect from the WWDC 2024:

• Generative AI in Focus: Even though Apple seems to be falling behind in the field of generative AI, there are signs that they are making a big push. News reports talk about possible collaborations between Apple and top AI entities such as Google and OpenAI.
• Updates to iOS 18: The main attraction of WWDC 2024 is iOS 18. Rumors are suggesting that it might be one of the most significant updates in this platform’s past. The main improvements that may come with the new version involve:
  • Siri Overhaul: Apple’s smart assistant is about to go through a big update. With generative AI, Siri will be more capable and can do things such as photo editing, deleting emails, or managing advanced tasks like reminders with specific times set for them. It is expected that there will also be enhancements in its speech and interaction abilities particularly on the Apple Watch.
  • Enhanced Apps: AI will boost many native apps. Safari might get smarter search, Notes could offer superior summarization and Voice Memos might have an automatic transcription feature.

  • Revamp of System Settings: The macOS will keep changing to look more like iOS, with a new design for system settings and better accessibility features. Even the Calculator app is getting some design updates that are much needed.
