Artificial intelligence-generated images are becoming increasingly prevalent in various industries. Procreate courses conducted a study using Google search data, to analyze national trends. The website has prepared a list of the top US States that use the most AI-generated images. 

According to the study, Colorado stands out as the most searched state, with an astounding 964.34 searches per 100,000 citizens. Wyoming and Oregon, occupy the 2nd and 3rd spot with 469.13 and 445.75 searches per 100,000 people, respectively.

Top 10 US States Using AI-Generated Images

  1. Colorado

Colorado tops the list with 56,680 monthly searches and 964.34 searches per 100,000 residents. The reasons are- the state’s flourishing tech hubs in cities like Denver and Boulder, and the tech-savvy population eager to embrace technological advancements.

2. Wyoming

Wyoming takes the second spot with 2,740 monthly searches and 469.13 searches per 100,000 residents. This surprising level of interest hints at a growing curiosity and openness to new tech trends, even in a state not widely known for its tech industry.

3. Oregon

Oregon, home to approximately 4.23 million people, registers 18,870 monthly searches, translating to 445.75 searches per 100,000 residents. The state’s burgeoning tech industry, particularly in the Silicon Forest region, alongside a creatively-inclined community, are some of the reasons behind the interest in AI-generated images.

4. Utah

Utah occupies the 4th spot on the list. The state records 15,070 monthly searches and 440.94 searches per 100,000 residents. The state’s expanding tech sector, concentrated around Salt Lake City, and a young, tech-embracing demographic are likely contributors to the high level of interest in AI imagery.

5. California

As home to Silicon Valley, it is no surprise that California, with its nearly 38.97 million residents, shows significant interest in AI-generated images. With 167,400 monthly searches and 429.61 searches per 100,000 residents, the state lives up to its reputation as a global tech powerhouse.

6. New York

New York, with around 19.57 million inhabitants, boasts 76,280 monthly searches, equating to 390 searches per 100,000 residents. The state’s lively tech scene, particularly in New York City, along with a population often eager to adopt new technologies, contributes to this substantial interest.

7. Massachusetts

Massachusetts demonstrates 26,840 monthly searches or 383.35 searches per 100,000 residents. The state’s rich academic and research atmosphere, bolstered by institutions such as MIT and Harvard, cultivates deep engagement with technological advancements like AI imagery.

8. Montana

Montana comes up at the 9th spot with 4,270 monthly searches and 376.94 searches per 100,000 residents. This could indicate an expanding tech footprint in cities, as well as statewide curiosity about emerging technologies.

9. Washington

In Washington, 28,960 monthly searches amount to 370.67 searches per 100,000 residents. The state’s substantial interest reflects its status as a tech powerhouse, hosting companies like Microsoft and Amazon, and fostering a culture deeply embedded with technological innovation.

10. Virginia

With around 8.72 million residents, Virginia recorded 30,580 monthly searches and 350.86 searches per 100,000 residents. This interest stems from the state’s robust tech sector, particularly in Northern Virginia, as well as a population increasingly engaging with digital and AI technologies.

Research Parameters and Methodology

Procreate Courses analyzed monthly Google search data related to AI-generated images using SEMrush. They also gathered the most recent population figures for all U.S. states. Following this, they normalized the search volumes, adjusting them per 100,000 residents in each state. Subsequently, states were ranked based on the normalized search data, facilitating the identification of those exhibiting the highest and lowest levels of interest per 100,000 residents.
