Shaped like an orange-colored walkie-talkie, the Rabbit R-1 is an AI gadget developed by a tech startup called Rabbit. Unlike popular belief, it is not a smartphone but a compact device that can fit in your pockets. It links to mobile applications and carries out different tasks for you. It employs its language model along with natural language commands to understand your inputs and carry out the tasks accordingly.
From arranging cabs and taxis and handling home chores to answering your calls and ordering food, Rabbit R-1 can do multiple things at once. It is powered by the Rabbit OS.
Rabbit R-1 is based on the research paper “learning human actions on computer applications” which says, “We have developed a system that can infer and model human actions on computer applications, perform the actions reliably and quickly, and is well-suited for deployment in various AI assistants and operating systems. Our system is called the Large Action Model (LAM). Enabled by recent advances in neuro-symbolic programming, the LAM allows for the direct modeling of the structure of various applications and user actions performed on them without a transitory representation, such as text. The LAM system achieves results competitively with state-of-the-art approaches in terms of accuracy, interpretability, and speed. Engineering the LAM architecture involves overcoming both research challenges and engineering complexities, from real-time communication to virtual network computing technologies. Rabbit R-1 is part of the Large Action Model (LAM) family. LAM explained on the Rabbit R-1 website, “The Large Action Model is the cornerstone of rabbit OS. LAM is a new type of foundation model that understands human intentions on computers. With LAM, rabbit OS understands what you say and gets things done.” Rabbit R-1 is here to make your everyday life easier. It can do an array of things, from making dinner reservations at your favorite restaurant to editing images and videos in Photoshop.
It also has a button for the push-to-talk function, an adjustable camera that rotates all the way, a distant-field microphone, and a scroll wheel of analog type. It also has a slot for a SIM card, along with Wi-Fi and cellular network connections, so you can make telephone calls with it.
You can easily control your engagement with Rabbit OS by using the Rabbit Hole, a unified web portal. It combines services such as Spotify and offers a direct approach to listening to your preferred songs on the gadget.
Not only this, but you can also teach your Rabbit to carry out certain tasks using the teach mode. All you need to do is record particular actions, describe them with your voice, and guide the rabbit OS. The LAM will understand it and then modify itself for different situations.

It is a web portal that is a hub to manage your relationship with Rabbit OS and your companion device. and here is a three-step process to follow:
Logging-in: Rabbit OS operates apps on our secured cloud, so you don’t have to. Log into the apps you’d like Rabbit to use on your system through the rabbit hole to relay control. You only need to do this once per app.
Settings: Manage your preferences and R1 devices, from initial linking, personal information, and clearing data to factory reset.
Journal: View your past interactions with R1: conversations, reports, images taken by the eye, app receipts, and more.
According to sources, the company will start delivering the gadget by the end of March. The first two batches of thousands of Rabbit R1 devices have been sold out, and the third batch is currently available for pre-order on their website. The third batch is scheduled to be delivered between May and June of 2024.

The Rabbit R1 pickup party (live unboxing event) took place on April 23rd at the TWA Hotel in New York City. Attendees who pre-ordered the device were invited to the event to receive their Rabbit R1 devices and witness live unboxing demonstrations. The event showcased the R1’s innovative AI-powered capabilities, including a 360-degree camera, 4G LTE Internet connection, and the RabbitOS operating system. The R1’s unique features and design impressed many, leading to over 20,000 pre-orders within 48 hours of its announcement.
