Meet PARMANU-AYN, India’s First Legal AI

GyanAI, an Indian artificial intelligence startup has brought something unique to the digital world, a legal NLP (natural language processing) model. This is the first generative language model created from the ground up with the Indian legal system in mind. The model called PARMANU-AYN is India’s first indigenously developed legal AI assistant.

PARMANU-AYN: India’s First Legal AI

PARAMANU-AYN is a language model specifically tailored for the legal domain in India. It incorporates a comprehensive corpus consisting of case documents from the Supreme Court of India up to December 2023, along with the Indian Constitution and the Indian Penal Code. 

The model employs an auto-regressive (AR) decoder-based model, pretraining it with a context size of 8192 on a single NVIDIA A100-PCIE-40GB GPU. The model undergoes instruction tuning on a diverse set of 10,763 legal instructions covering various tasks such as legal reasoning, judgment explanation, legal clause generation, and more.

To ensure optimal performance, PARAMANU-AYN undergoes meticulous testing in several areas, including validation perplexity, model FLOP utilization (MFU), CPU inference speed, and response quality to complex legal queries.

This legal AI is set to revolutionize India’s legal landscape by empowering professionals with powerful AI capabilities. It expedites routine tasks, analyzes documents, and offers insights from extensive legal knowledge databases.
