Mark Zuckerberg launched the Meta AI chatbot ;Redefining WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram Experience

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the “Meta AI chatbot” launch while delivering a speech at the Meta Connect event at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.  Meta AI chatbot is a generative artificial intelligence (AI) feature to be embedded in its applications – Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. While delivering the speech Zuckerberg said that the integration of the Meta AI Chatbot will leverage over 3 billion people using social networking on a daily basis. Also, it will help the company to stand out in the social networking market with respect to tech giants, such as Google, and Microsoft, and upstarts such as OpenAI.

The new AI assistant, Meta AI, will be initially available from September 27 for a limited group of U.S.-based users. This beta version will be rolled out for the global audience once it qualifies the quality assurance tests in terms of generating relevant AI assistance to users.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled his firm’s new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered assistant — Meta AI — his answer to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which will integrate with Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and, eventually, the company’s mixed reality devices.

The Meta AI is powered by the company’s large language model, Llama 2, and has been built in partnership with Microsoft Bing to allow users access to real-time information from the internet. Llama 2 is a large language model (LLM) from Meta AI that was released in July 2023. It is a successor to the Llama LLM, which was released in 2022. Llama 2 is a family of trained and fine-tuned LLMs, ranging in size from 7 billion to 70 billion parameters. The pre-trained models are trained on 2 trillion tokens of text and code and have double the context length of the Llama 1 models.

In addition to answering questions and talking with users, it can generate images, leveraging a new image generation tool called Emu that Meta trained on 1.1 billion pieces of data, including photos and captions shared by users on Facebook and Instagram.

Zuckerberg said Meta AI is totally different from other AI tools ChatGPT and Bard as instead of creating a one-size-fits-all chatbot, Meta’s overarching strategy is to create different AI products for different use cases.

While showcasing the use case as an example, he showed how Meta AI is slightly different in each of the company’s social media apps. He also provided an example of how it could be added to group chats on Facebook Messenger to assist with organizing travel plans.

Zuckerberg said that Meta’s chatbots aren’t just intended to transmit helpful information. They are also designed to be conversational and entertaining.

Meta AI is also an entertainment-focused AI product and this feature has been showcased with a collection of chatbots based on approximately 30 celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg and former NFL player Tom Brady. For this Meta has partnered with well-known public figures and used the Meta AI  to represent their characters, not themselves. The public-facing social profiles and related visual content creation is managed by Meta.
