Google recently announced new ways to get more done in your personal and professional life with Gemini for Google Workspace. Gemini in the workspace will now use Gemini 1.5 Pro and will be available to more people in the future. Also, Google is adding new features to Gemini in Gmail on mobile and expanding language support for ‘Help me write’ feature in Docs and Gmail.

How Are New Features Like Mail Summarize, Reply, and Q&A Helpful?

Gemini in Gmail helps people and businesses get more out of their Google apps, from drafting emails in Gmail to organizing project plans in Sheets. Over the last year, more than a million people and tens of thousands of companies have used generative AI in Workspace when they need an extra hand or dose of inspiration.

Try new Gemini for Workspace features in the Gmail mobile app to help you easily access Gemini and stay productive on the go in three different ways:

• Summarize emails: It takes time to catch up on lengthy email threads on any device, but small screens make it particularly difficult. Gemini can now analyze email threads and offer a summarized view right within the Gmail app. Simply tap the summarize button at the top of your email thread to get the highlights. This month, Workspace Labs users will be able to access it; the following month, all Gemini for Workspace clients and Google One AI Premium subscribers will be able to do the same.
  
  
• Contextual Smart Reply: The advanced features like Help me Write, Smart Reply, and Smart Compose provide users with time-saving suggestions as they type, and for years, they have allowed users to save entire email drafts. Soon, Gemini in Gmail will provide even more intelligent and in-depth suggested responses that are tailored to the specifics of your email exchange. You can send as-is, do it in steps, or use Contextual Smart Reply. This will be available to Workspace Labs users on mobile and web starting in July.

• Gmail Q&A: Gemini in Gmail in the mobile app will offer helpful options, like “summarize this email,” “list the next steps” or “suggest a reply.” And similar to the side panel on the desktop, you can use the open prompt box when you have more specific requests. For instance, you could ask Gemini to “find the bid from the roofing contractor” that’s buried somewhere in your inbox. Or maybe you don’t want to dig through your Drive for the document with details about your book club. Instead, you could just ask Gemini, “What are the discussion questions for my upcoming book club meeting?” Gmail Q&A will be available to Workspace Labs users on mobile and web starting in July

The AI announcements do not stop here. For users of Workspace, Google is introducing a new sidebar powered by the Gemini 1.5 Pro model in the side panel of Gmail, Docs, Drive, Slides, and Sheets. Gemini will find whatever you are looking at in your own data and provide far more insightful responses based on the context of your emails, files, and drive. 

How to use Gemini in the Side Panel of GMAIL?

Google is introducing a significant enhancement to its Gmail service with the general availability of Gemini in the Gmail side panel. Leveraging Google’s most advanced AI models, including the Gemini 1.5 Pro model, this new feature brings powerful tools directly into Gmail. On Web:

1. Accessing Gemini:
   • Open Gmail on your web browser.
   • Look for the “Ask Gemini” button (star icon) in the top right corner of Gmail and click on it.
2. Features:
   • Summarize an email thread: Use Gemini to provide a concise summary of a lengthy email thread.
   • Suggest responses: Get suggested replies for an email thread.
   • Draft emails: Receive assistance in drafting new emails.
   • Search for information: Ask questions to find specific details from your emails or Google Drive files.
3. Example Questions:
   • Ask Gemini to search your inbox with questions like:
     • “What was the PO number for my agency?”
     • “How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?”
     • “When is the next team meeting?”

On Mobile:

1. Accessing Gemini:
   • Open the Gmail app on your Android or iOS device.
   • In an email thread, tap on the “summarize this email” chip to activate Gemini.
2. Features:
   • Analyze email threads and see a summarized view with key highlights.
   • Coming Soon: Additional mobile features like Contextual Smart Reply and Gmail Q&A.

Admin Requirements:

1. Admin Settings:
   • Ensure smart features and personalization are turned on for users.
   • Admins can enable the default personalization setting in the Admin console.

Rollout Pace:

• Web:
  • Rapid Release domains: Full rollout (1-3 days for feature visibility) starting on June 24, 2024.
  • Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on July 8, 2024.
• Mobile:
  • Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on June 24, 2024.

Availability:

• Available for Google Workspace customers with:
  • Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on.
  • Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on.
  • Google One AI Premium.
