Arthur Mensch’s journey in AI research began with his PhD work at Inria, where he focused on predictive models and optimization techniques for analyzing large fMRI datasets. 

In 2020, he was employed as a senior research scientist at Google’s DeepMind, where he worked on large language modeling, multimodal models, and retrieval. He left DeepMind in 2023 to found his startup.

BNP Paribas and Mistral AI have embarked on a groundbreaking multi-year collaboration to integrate advanced AI models across the bank’s business divisions. The multi-year agreement gives BNP Paribas access to Mistral AI’s models across all business lines, following successful trials that began in September 2023. BNP Paribas is now using these models in customer support, sales, IT, and more, benefiting from Mistral AI’s scalable, energy-efficient technology.

The leak occurred when an anonymous user posted a link to ‘Miqu-1-70b’ on the online forum HuggingFace. 

Arthur Mensch also acknowledged the leak, tweeting on platform X (formerly Twitter) that an “over-enthusiastic employee of one of our early access customers leaked a quantized (and watermarked) version of an old model we trained and distributed quite openly.”

Some time ago, Mistral AI released Mixtral 8x22B, its frontier model. This cutting-edge model is a significant improvement in capability. It outperforms its predecessor with a staggering 176 billion parameters. In contrast to its rivals, OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini, Mixtral was made available as a 281GB file via a straightforward download link.

The company has an open-source strategy, making its AI systems available for everyone to download and expand upon. The company has vowed to maintain its open-source coding. “The goal is not to abandon open source,” said Mistral’s head of public affairs, Audrey Herblin-Stoop. “This technology is revolutionary and we have to be transparent — we must enable people to look under the hood and it’s open source that allows this.”

Mistral’s CEO, Mensch also made headlines with his comment on AGI. In an interview, Mensch was recorded saying. “The whole AGI. rhetoric is about creating God. I don’t believe in God. I’m a strong atheist. So I don’t believe in AGI.”
