According to Crunchbase, AI companies continued to attract significant venture funding in the third quarter, raising a total of $18.9 billion. This represented 28% of all venture funding during the period.

AI Startups that raised more than $100 million

EvenUp

In October, EvenUp, an AI-powered legal tech company, raised $135 million in a Series D round. Bain Capital Ventures led the investment with support from SignalFire and Lightspeed, among others. This latest round valued the startup at $1 billion.

KoBold Metals

Berkeley-based KoBold Metals secured $491.5 million in a venture round in October. While the investors for this round were not disclosed, the company has previously attracted investments from VCs like Bond and Andreessen Horowitz.

Poolside

AI-powered software development platform Poolside closed a $500 million Series B round on October 2. The round was led by Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from Redpoint, StepStone, and Nvidia, pushing the company’s valuation to $3 billion.

OpenAI

On October 2, OpenAI announced a historic $6.6 billion venture round, making it the largest venture round ever. Thrive Capital led the round, joined by Tiger Global and SoftBank, valuing OpenAI at $157 billion.

Glean

In September, enterprise search startup Glean raised $260 million in a Series E round, increasing its valuation by 87.5% to $4.5 billion. This marked the company’s second funding round in 2024.

Safe Superintelligence

Safe Superintelligence, an AI research lab founded by Ilya Sutskever and Daniel Gross, raised $1 billion on September 4. Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, and DST Global participated in this round, which valued the company at $4 billion.

Magic

AI coding startup Magic raised $320 million in a Series C round on August 29, marking its second major raise of the year. Investors included CapitalG, Sequoia, and Jane Street Capital.

Codeium

AI-powered coding platform Codeium closed a $150 million Series C round on August 29, led by General Catalyst. Kleiner Perkins and Greenoaks also participated, and the company’s valuation hit $1.2 billion.

DevRev

Silicon Valley-based DevRev raised $100 million in a Series A round in August, valuing the company at $1.1 billion. Investors included Khosla Ventures, Mayfield, and Param Hansa Values.

Abnormal Security

San Francisco-based Abnormal Security secured $250 million in August for its AI-driven email security platform. Led by Wellington Management, the round included Menlo Ventures, Greylock, and Insight Partners. The company’s valuation surpassed $5 billion.

Groq

Groq, an AI chip startup, raised $640 million in a Series D round in August. BlackRock led the investment, with additional backing from Type One Ventures, Verdure Capital Management, and Neuberger Berman. The company’s valuation exceeded $3 billion.

World Labs

World Labs, founded by renowned AI researcher Fei-Fei Li, raised $230 million in September. The startup, valued at over $1 billion, is focused on building AI models that estimate the three-dimensional physicality of real-world objects.

Harvey

AI legal tech company Harvey raised $100 million in a Series C round on July 23, led by Google Ventures. OpenAI, Kleiner Perkins, and Sequoia also participated, pushing the company’s valuation to $1.5 billion.

Hebbia

Hebbia, a startup specializing in generative AI for searching large documents, raised $130 million on July 8. Andreessen Horowitz led the round, joined by Peter Thiel, Index Ventures, and Google Ventures. The company is now valued at $700 million.

Skild AI

Pittsburgh-based Skild AI raised $300 million in a Series A round on July 9, which valued the company at $1.5 billion. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Coatue, and Bezos Expeditions, with participation from Sequoia and General Catalyst. Skild AI builds technology for robotics.

Bright Machines

In June, AI-driven robotics company Bright Machines raised $106 million in a Series C round led by BlackRock. Nvidia, Microsoft, and Eclipse Ventures also participated. The startup has raised over $437 million to date.

Etched.ai

San Francisco-based Etched.ai raised $120 million in a Series A round on June 25, led by Primary Venture Partners and Positive Sum. Investors like Two Sigma Ventures, Peter Thiel, and Kyle Vogt also joined the round. Etched.ai is focused on creating chips that run AI models faster and more affordably.

EvolutionaryScale

EvolutionaryScale, a New York-based company developing biological AI models for therapeutic design, raised $142 million in a seed round in June. Lux Capital, Nat Friedman, and Daniel Gross led the investment.

AKASA

AKASA, a healthcare revenue cycle automation platform, raised $120 million in June. The San Francisco-based startup has raised $205 million to date, with backing from Andreessen Horowitz, Costanoa Ventures, and Bond.

AlphaSense

Market intelligence platform AlphaSense raised $650 million in a Series F round in June. Viking Global Investors and BDT & MSD Partners led the round, with participation from CapitalG, SoftBank Vision Fund, and Goldman Sachs. The company is valued at $4 billion.

xAI

Elon Musk’s xAI raised $6 billion in May, one of the largest rounds in 2024. The company is focused on accelerating human scientific discovery and is valued at $24 billion. Investors include Sequoia, Valor Equity Partners, and Fidelity.

Scale AI

In May, data-labeling platform Scale AI raised $1 billion in a Series F round led by Accel. Other investors included Tiger Global, Spark Capital, and Amazon. The San Francisco-based startup is now valued at nearly $14 billion.

Suno

AI music creation platform Suno raised $125 million in May, valuing the company at $500 million. Founder Collective, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Matrix joined former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross in this round.

Weka

Weka, which created an AI-native data platform, raised $140 million in a Series E round in May. Valor Equity Partners led the round, along with Qualcomm Ventures, Nvidia, and Hitachi Ventures. The company is valued at $1.6 billion.

CoreWeave

GPU infrastructure provider CoreWeave raised $1.1 billion in May, bringing its valuation to $19 billion. The Series C round was led by Coatue, with additional participation from Fidelity, Altimeter Capital, and Magnetar Capital.

Blaize

AI computing platform Blaize raised $106 million in a Series D round in April. Investors included Temasek, Franklin Templeton, and Bess Ventures. Blaize has raised $242 million in total funding.

Augment

Palo Alto-based Augment raised $227 million in April to boost its AI coding assistance platform. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Index Ventures, and Sutter Hill Ventures participated in the Series B round, valuing the company at nearly $1 billion.

Cognition

Cognition, an applied AI lab, raised $175 million in April, just a month after its Series A. The round was led by Founders Fund, with participation from Stripe co-founders Patrick and John Collison, Ramp co-founder Eric Glyman, and others. The startup is valued at $2 billion.

Xaira Therapeutics

AI drug discovery startup Xaira Therapeutics raised $1 billion in April. Foresite Capital and ARCH Venture Partners led the round, with participation from Sequoia, NEA, and Lux Capital.

Cyera

AI-powered data security platform Cyera raised $300 million in April, led by Coatue. The New York-based startup is valued at $1.4 billion, with Sequoia, Redpoint, and Accel also participating.

Celestial AI

Celestial AI raised $175 million in a Series C round in March, bringing its total funding to $338 million. The round was led by US Innovative Technology Fund, with M Ventures and Temasek among the participants.

FundGuard

AI-powered investment accounting platform FundGuard raised $100 million in March, valuing the New York-based startup at $400 million. Key1 Capital led the round, joined by Hamilton Lane and Blumberg Capital.

Together AI

Together AI raised $106 million in a Series A round in March, led by Salesforce Ventures. The platform helps develop open-source generative AI models. Other investors included NEA, Kleiner Perkins, and Lux Capital. The company is valued at $1.2 billion.

Zephyr AI

Zephyr AI, based in Virginia, raised $111 million in a Series A round in March. Revolution Growth, Eli Lilly Foundation, and investor Jeff Skoll participated in the round. Zephyr AI is focused on enhancing drug discovery and precision medicine.
