First AI City in India: Projects, Vision and Future Perspective
As Indian states are trying to use the power of Artificial Intelligence, the Heartland of India, Uttar Pradesh, has surged forward by planning to create India’s first AI city in Lucknow. This initiative aims to promote a generative artificial intelligence ecosystem in the city.
According to a report by Grand View Research, the global market size of generative artificial intelligence was estimated at $196.63 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 36.6% from 2024 to 2030.

While speaking at a conclave on ‘Destination UP- Emerging Hub for AI in India‘, CM Yogi Adityanath also said that Uttar Pradesh is poised to emerge as a data centre hub, with Lucgrowths an eminent centre of artificial intelligence.
According to the CM, three data centres are operational in UP, and eight are in the pipeline. The state government is working on developing Lucknow as an AI city, and youths enrolled in IIM-Lucknow and Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University are becoming partners in this project.
He mentioned that the process has started to set up an AI centre at Gautam Buddh Nagar University in Greater Noida. Lakhs of youth will get jobs in their home districts with the opening of new centres in various districts of Uttar Pradesh. He believes that investors should recognize Uttar Pradesh’s potential and invest now. Otherwise, they might regret missing out on this opportunity later.

The CM added that we must strive for comprehensive development to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of 25 crore people.
The Uttar Pradesh government aims to become a USD 1 trillion economy within the next five years. To achieve this goal, IT and ITeS sectors have been identified to propel the economy. UP is also the sixth-largest state in the IT ecosystem, home to one of India’s highest number of startups.
