The well-known philanthropist and co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, is known for having a jam-packed meeting calendar. To maximize his time and handle the overwhelming amount of information, Gates has resorted to AI-driven meeting summaries.
In an interview with The Verge, Gates recently shared his favourite AI tool: “I would say that the item that I use the most is the meeting summary. It is a part of [Microsoft] Teams, and I use it a lot. It’s great to ask questions regarding the meeting and engage rather than just get the report.”

AI in the Contemporary Workplace with Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot, an AI assistant driven by OpenAI technology, is the instrument Gates uses. Copilot’s seamless integration with a variety of Microsoft 365 apps gives users a strong way to retrieve and use data that’s hidden in documents or dispersed among discussions.
“Copilot allows users to ‘find and use info that’s buried in documents or lost in conversations, and get things done in whole new ways using the power of AI,'” Microsoft explains.
AI-Powered Increases in Efficiency
In embracing AI for increased efficiency at work, Gates is not alone. According to a Hubspot poll, employees who use AI technologies can save their daily task time for taking notes, organizing meetings, and entering data by up to two hours. Some Copilot customers go so far as to say that by using AI-generated summaries, they can catch up on missed meetings entirely.

The Present AI’s Limitations
Gates is excited by AI, but he also recognizes its limitations at this time. He had said in an interview that “if it’s a problem that humans are not good at dealing with, then present techniques don’t create some novel approach.”
The best AI models now available are excellent at automating jobs that people currently complete, albeit more slowly: summarizing and transcribing meeting notes. They are still unable to come up with genuinely original answers to challenging issues.
Considerable Time and Money Savings
AI-powered meeting summaries have considerable potential savings, notwithstanding their drawbacks. According to a Reclaim.ai survey, meetings take up more than one-third of an employee’s workweek. This equates to an estimated $29,000 per worker yearly in the US.
