What is Gemini Nano AI Feature Drop in the Google Pixel 8?

Google responds to user feedback, bringing Gemini Nano AI to Pixel 8 in June Feature Drop, empowering users with enhanced smart features and opening AI capabilities for developers.

In a surprising turn of events, Google has announced a significant update for Pixel 8 users, the introduction of Gemini Nano AI through an upcoming feature drop. According to the 9To5 Google report, this decision comes after a wave of online backlash from Pixel 8 owners, who voiced their disappointment over the company’s initial decision to restrict Gemini Nano to the Pixel 8 Pro.

Gemini Nano, a tier of Google’s Gemini AI system designed to run entirely on-device, will now be available for both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in a developer preview, with the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop expected in June. The on-device Gemini Nano AI will power two new features: Summarize in Recorder and Smart Reply in Gboard. These features are designed to offer higher-quality smart replies with conversational awareness, improving user interaction with messaging apps like WhatsApp, Line, and KakaoTalk on the Pixel 8 Pro.

Additionally, Summarize in Recorder will allow users to generate bullet points from recorded audio, enhancing productivity and organization.

Despite differences in RAM between the Pixel 8 (8GB RAM) and Pixel 8 Pro (12GB RAM), Google has ensured consistent user experiences by rigorously testing Nano on both devices.

By optimizing Nano’s performance on devices with varying memory specifications, Google aims to deliver seamless functionality across its Pixel lineup.
