What are Meta’s Next-Generation AI Chips for Enhancing Workload Performance?

Meta introduces its latest custom-made chips for AI workloads, promising significant performance enhancements to power ranking and recommendation models on Facebook and Instagram. These chips will drive new and better user experiences across Meta's apps and technologies.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has announced the launch of its next-generation custom-made chips designed to revolutionize its AI infrastructure. These chips represent a significant advancement over the previous generation, enhancing performance and powering Meta’s ranking and recommendation ads models on Facebook and Instagram. The new chips are a part of Meta’s continued investment in AI infrastructure, these chips are designed to deliver new and improved experiences across its apps and technologies. With a focus on supporting new generative AI products, recommendation systems, and advanced AI research, Meta is paving the way for future innovation in AI-driven applications.

Last year, Meta introduced its Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) v1, the first-generation AI inference accelerator tailored for Meta’s deep learning recommendation models. This initiative reflects Meta’s commitment to efficiency and innovation, ensuring the best experiences for users worldwide.

The next generation of MTIA builds upon its predecessor, doubling the compute and memory bandwidth while maintaining close ties to Meta’s workloads.
