Spotify AI Playlist Tool Goes Global: Now Available in US, Canada, Ireland, and NZ for Premium Users

Spotify expands its AI-powered playlist creation tool to more countries, allowing Premium users in the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand to create personalized playlists based on text descriptions. Available now in beta for mobile users!

Spotify is bringing its AI-powered playlist creation tool—which builds songs based on your text descriptions—to more English-speaking areas. After launching in the UK and Australia earlier this year, AI Playlist is now available in beta to US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand users with Premium Spotify subscriptions (which start at $5.99 per month for students or $11.99 for individuals).

Users can access the feature on the mobile app by tapping the “+” button in the upper right corner of their Spotify library. A chat window will appear after choosing “AI Playlist” from the drop-down menu. In it, you can describe the playlist you’d want to listen to—for example, “soothing folk music for a chill bath time” or “spooky songs to play during Halloween.”

Additionally, the tool will offer recommended prompts. Currently, neither the Spotify desktop app nor the Spotify web app offers the AI Playlist beta.

Thirty tracks make up the generated playlists, and you can add more prompts to change the music to better fit the mood—for example, to request more lively music. Though a few people shared their testing experience, it was found to be amazingly capable of matching songs to even niche statements like “Make Me Feel like a Vampire Hunter from Blade (1998).” Specific descriptors such as genres, decades, emotions, or artists will yield better results.

While the service is still in beta, Spotify claims that it is “actively learning and iterating with each exchange” and that it may eventually roll out updates to improve AI Playlist.
