Microsoft Releases Major Windows 11 Update with AI Assistant Copilot

Microsoft has introduced a major update for its Windows 11 PC operating system, featuring the debut of Copilot, an AI chatbot that can assist users in various tasks, including answering questions and performing operating system functions.

Microsoft has launched a significant update for Windows 11, introducing Copilot, a chatbot that employs generative artificial intelligence to create human-like text and content with minimal human direction. This update enhances the functionality of the world’s most widely used PC operating system.

Copilot, powered by large language models trained by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, can compose email text, answer questions, and perform various actions in Windows, utilizing information from websites to augment its knowledge.

Windows 11 adoption has been on the rise, currently representing approximately 24% of desktop PCs, with Windows 10 controlling nearly 72% of the market, supported until October 2025. Copilot is expected to be a significant feature in Windows 11, assisting users with tasks such as opening apps, enabling dark mode, and providing web page summaries while using the Edge browser.

Additionally, the Windows 11 2023 Update, also known as 23H2, introduces several other features:

Virtual Video Editor: An auto-compose feature in the built-in Clipchamp video-editing app streamlines the process of creating final videos using AI.

Polyglot Screen Reading: Windows Narrator now supports additional languages, enhancing accessibility features.

Lower Energy Bills: Energy-saving features like “adaptive dimming” reduce energy consumption by adjusting the screen brightness based on user presence.

Boot to the Cloud: Cloud-based Windows users can log directly into their cloud instance.

Smarter Snipping: The Snipping Tool allows users to extract text from screenshots and quickly redact sensitive information.

Better Backup: Users can back up previously installed apps and preferences.

Paint with Words: The Paint app gains AI capabilities for generating images from text descriptions.

More Taskbar Customization: Taskbar customization options are expanded.

Notepad with Memory: Notepad now automatically saves your work for seamless continuation.

Easier Picture Hunting: The Photos app includes improved search functionality.

File Recommendations at Work: Windows 11 offers file suggestions in File Explorer and the Start menu for work computers.

Games Right Away: “Instant games” testing allows playing casual games without downloading them first.

Developer Landing Pad: The Dev Home app provides developers with tools for tracking activity and setting up new storage volumes.

A Home for System Components: System components are now conveniently managed in a dedicated page.
