Meta Plans to Charge $14 a Month for Ad-Free Instagram or Facebook for EU users

Pay $14 and enjoy uninterrupted and ad-free Instagram and Facebook services – This is what Meta Platform is planning for users in Europe. Meta will soon launch an ad-free Instagram and Facebook service for European users so that they can experience uninterrupted product experience without any distractions. Also, this will help Meta to comply with the European Union regulations that threaten to curb its ability to personalize ads for users without their consent.

However, the official communication has not been made by the Meta platform when they will roll out ad-free Instagram and Facebook services. Some industry experts have recently said that Meta Platforms is looking to introduce ad-free subscription plans as some features have been tested on the selected group of users. They also said that the pilot research is going on the selected group of users and based on the findings Meta will roll out ad-free Instagram and Facebook services in the European market.

Several pricing plans were discussed, but the 10 euro ($10.49) per month plan is the most feasible, one of them said, while the other source said it will be implemented in the coming months.

Experts said that the choice between a free, ad-supported plan and a paid subscription will help Meta comply with regulations without affecting its ad business. Meta users who will buy paid subscriptions will not be interrupted by ads while personalised ads will be shown to users based on their behaviours algorithm.

Meta has yet to decide on the final pricing for an ad-free subscription as they have to consider various factors like commissions charged by Apple’s and Google’s app stores.

Earlier, Meta was fined 390 million euros by Ireland’s Data Privacy Commissioner, and it has been highlighted that the company cannot use the so-called “contract” as a legal basis to send users ads based on their online activity. Read here details published on iapp.org

Meta the social media company said it intended to ask users in the EU for their consent before allowing businesses to target ads in order to address evolving regulatory requirements in the region. A Meta spokesperson said the company believes in “free services which are supported by personalized ads,” but is exploring “options to ensure we comply with evolving regulatory requirements.”
