Google's NotebookLM now supports YouTube videos and audio files, allowing users to generate AI-powered summaries, study guides, and inline citations linked to video transcripts. This update simplifies note-taking and research for students and professionals.
Google NotebookLM
Many of us use YouTube, which has much instructional information, to learn new topics or get assistance with our schoolwork. Unfortunately, it lacks any built-in tools to assist students with note-taking or providing a brief synopsis of the subjects covered in a video. Although we don’t think YouTube will add these features, NotebookLM has a new function that might be useful.
With data from multiple sources, NotebookLM, Google’s AI-powered research and writing helper, enables you to swiftly create notes, study guides, conversations with AI hosts, and more. Users have so far been able to import data from websites, Google Docs, Slides, PDF files, and text/markdown files using this application. Google has now made YouTube videos and audio files compatible.

Key ideas from publicly accessible YouTube videos may now be summed up by NotebookLM, according to Google, “and allows for in-depth exploration through inline citations linked directly to the video’s transcripts.” In addition, the application features an integrated YouTube player that lets you view the video while taking notes, allowing you to build AI-powered discussions based on the video.
When working with audio files, NotebookLM may produce thorough study guides and assist you with finding particular material in the audio transcript. Google has also developed a quicker method for sharing audio overviews made in NotebookLM, which creates shareable URLs for the discussions hosted by AI and these additional sources.
By visiting the NotebookLM website and adding the URL of a publicly accessible YouTube video or audio file to your notebook, you can test out these new functionalities. Please note that Workspace users do not have access to the sharable Audio Overviews URLs.
