Disney Creates Office of Technology Enablement to Drive AI and XR Integration in Entertainment

Disney has officially launched a new division focused on exploring and integrating extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Disney has formally announced the creation of a new division devoted to the exploration and incorporation of extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The goal of this program called the Office of Technology Enablement is to improve and accelerate the company’s use of these game-changing technologies throughout its theme park, television, and film businesses.

What’s New?

Jamie Voris,  former Chief Technology Officer at Disney Studios, will head the Office of Technology Enablement. Voris, who is well-known for his recent contributions to the Apple Vision Pro software, will answer directly to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman. Over time, the corporation intends to expand this division to employ about 100 people, highlighting its dedication to innovation.

Key Insight:

This new unit will not centralize existing AI and XR projects; rather, it will support various teams already engaged in these technologies. Alan Bergman noted, “The pace and scope of advances in AI and XR are profound and will continue to impact consumer experiences, creative endeavors, and our business for years to come making it critical that Disney explore the exciting opportunities and navigate the potential risks.”

How this works?

The Office of Technology Enablement will act as a coordinating body, ensuring that various projects align with Disney’s strategic objectives. This collaborative approach is intended to clarify processes and enable teams across the company to drive outcomes with greater agility and consistency. Bergman emphasized that this initiative is about understanding and embracing new technological shifts in ways that enhance creativity and business operations.

Result:

With the establishment of this unit, Disney is reinforcing its position as a leader in the entertainment industry by proactively addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by AI and XR. The creation of this group underscores Disney’s dedication to defining responsible use and best practices in these emerging fields.

Why this matters?

The launch of the Office of Technology Enablement is significant not just for Disney but for the entire entertainment sector. As companies increasingly rely on AI and XR to enhance storytelling and consumer engagement, Disney’s proactive approach may serve as a model for others in the industry. By focusing on responsible technology use, Disney aims to balance innovation with accountability.

We’re thinking –

Disney’s recent entry into AI and XR raises important issues regarding the direction of entertainment technology like how will audience experiences change as a result of these developments? “We are excited about the opportunities these efforts will unlock for Disney as we advance further in these complex and exciting areas while staying true to our core values and creative legacy,” Bergman said in closing, expressing hope about the future.

In addition to demonstrating Disney’s dedication to innovation, this program establishes a standard for responsible technology usage in a sector that is about to undergo significant change.
