Canva Teams Subscription to Increase 300% in 2024, Fueled by New AI-Powered Features

Because of the company’s aggressive introduction of generative AI technologies, some Canva memberships are expected to rise in price next year. Customers worldwide can anticipate price increases of slightly more than 300% in certain cases for Canva Teams, a business-focused subscription that allows adding multiple users. Canva claims that the “expanded product experience” and value generative AI tools it has brought to the platform justifies the hike.

Some Canva Teams users in the US are complaining that their annual subscriptions have increased from $120 for up to five people to an astonishing $500. The first twelve months will be reduced to $300 by a 40% discount. The monthly flat cost of $39.99 AUS (about $26) for five users is being replaced in Australia with a fee of $13.50 AUS (around $9) for each user. That means a team of five will pay at least 68% more without considering any other reductions.

Canva had locked some of these accounts into lower tariffs it no longer offers. In April, the business quietly raised the monthly fee for new Teams subscribers to $10 per user, with a three-user minimum. Current users are also being switched to this structure in September, according to Louisa Green, lead for communications at Canva, “to reflect the current price of the plan and the value of our expanded product experience.”

“With the introduction of new offerings like the Visual Suite and Magic Studio, our suite of products has grown significantly over the last couple of years,” Green told The Verge in a statement.

Over the past few years, Canva has introduced an abundance of generative AI tools, like its Magic Expand background extension tool and Magic Media text-to-image generator. The site was once just available to professionals in marketing and design, but with the enhancements, it now offers a wider range of workspace options.

Although Canva has previously disclosed comparable price hikes to the public, it appears that the most recent increases were only disclosed through emails to customers. It doesn’t seem to be affecting Pro and Enterprise subscribers’ other subscription tiers.

Canva, which was formerly thought to be a straightforward and cost-effective substitute for more expensive graphic design tools offered by Adobe, has made a dramatic turn with its premium pricing. Online Canva customers have been critical about the price rises; some have even declared they will be switching to Adobe apps and cancelling their subscriptions. These enormous price hikes come just after Canva reportedly paid “several hundred million [British] pounds” to acquire the business that created Affinity’s creative software suite, and before Canva may go public in the US in 2026.
