Apple's New AI Assistant 'Apple Intelligence' to Launch Gradually
In Short
In a strategic move, Apple has announced the gradual rollout of its new AI assistant, ‘Apple Intelligence.’ Unveiled last week, this AI program will first be accessible to developers via limited keys in late summer, with a public preview slated for the fall.
Unlike previous releases, Apple is adopting a more flexible approach, focusing initially on American English and aiming to revolutionize user interaction and business applications with this advanced AI technology.
Yi Fang, associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering and director of responsible AI in the School of Engineering at Santa Clara University, stated that
“As consumers become accustomed to AI handling more tasks, their reliance on AI for daily activities and decision-making will likely increase. This could shift consumer expectations toward more automated and intuitive services”.

The report goes further to state that there are major changes in Apple’s operation and that the exclusion of a complete list of next year’s releases at the Worldwide Developers Conference as a list of what is to be launched in the later part of this year or early next year indicates a change of tact for the company. But unlike previous years, Apple, as a rule, does not have to postpone certain features; this is also possible because the new tactic offers more flexibility in staffing and development.
Planned for a certain set of devices and limited to American English initially, Apple Intelligence is bound to be available for a select group of people, and it remains to be seen whether users would have to register to get on a beta waiting list to begin with. Apple benefits from this by beginning with American English, as it can take its time to train its AI on the other languages, and this is a very big task.
While the current AI initiatives might be small at Apple, they indicate that the technology can revolutionize consumers’ engagement with their machines and the shopping process. With the help of integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Apple devices are going to take input for customers’ queries, orders, and guide the consumer with the right product they need.
The report also highlights the potential that Apple has for revolutionizing businesses’ applications of AI in their operations because this technology will alter how companies interact with their customers. Given the opportunity to scan through browsing histories, purchasing tendencies, habits on Facebook and Twitter, Apple Intelligence may assist companies to comprehend their buyers and anticipate their future actions.
The slow pace at which Apple is introducing its AI technology is maybe a let down to many people, but there are definitely reasons behind this strategy.
