2024 Olympics: Google Becomes Team USA’s Official AI Sponsor

Google is the official AI sponsor for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics, starting July 26th. The partnership will highlight NBCUniversal's AI-powered features, including 3D views from Google Maps and AI Search Overviews. Fans can look forward to interactive experiences and enhanced Olympic coverage thanks to Google’s latest AI advancements.

Google has become the “official AI sponsor for Team USA.” You’ll be reminded of this often when the 2024 Olympics coverage begins on July 26th. Thanks to its cooperation with Google, several of NBCUniversal’s AI-powered features will be highlighted throughout the event.

The stream will feature 3D views from Google Maps of locations such as the Versailles, Stade Roland Garros, and the Aquatics Centre, along with information on events scheduled at each site. The image is taken from the Immersive Views that have been added to Maps in recent years, which use photorealistic models to depict specific locations and points of interest.

Announcers and pundits will attempt to answer Olympic and Paralympic questions to cram Google Search AI Overviews into broadcast segments as part of the agreement to promote Gemini and Google’s other AI capabilities. Hopefully, this will work better than the last time it instructed us to put glue on our pizza or expose all of the film in a camera to fix a jam, along with the AI-generated Al Michaels recaps.

In addition, among other pre-planned activities, comedian Leslie Jones will ask Gemini to teach her a new sport. Five Olympians and Paralympians will also appear in “social videos and late-night promos” where they will use Google Maps Immersive View, Circle to Search, Gemini, and Google Lens to explore Paris.

“With the help of Team USA athletes and NBC talent, we’ll show how our latest advancements in Search, Google Maps Platform, and Gemini can make it easier to explore and learn about the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Google said in a statement regarding the cooperation. Notably, it is unknown what the deal’s exact financials are.
