Twitter’s Rival, Instagram Threads: Check, How to Install, How to use, and Key Features

Recently, Mark Zuckerberg announced the initial release of Threads, a new application developed by the Instagram team. It has been launched in over 100 countries for iOS and Android, and people in those countries can download the app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

At its core, Threads operates similarly to Twitter, allowing users to create posts, follow other users, and engage in conversations through comments and likes. However, it distinguishes itself by offering a more thread-based approach to discussions. Instead of a linear timeline, Threads organizes conversations into nested threads, making it easier for users to follow and engage in specific topics or subtopics within a broader discussion.

Further, Adam Mosseri added on his Instagram Profile “ Threads is our new app, built by the Instagram team, for text updates and joining public conversations. We’re hoping Threads can be a great space for public conversations, and we’re very focused on the creator communities that already enjoy Instagram. Available now on iOS and Android in over 100 countries. See you there

Threads App

This app is specifically designed for sharing text-based content. It has gained significant attention as a potential rival to Twitter.

How to Install Threads Application?

Step 1: Download the Threads App from the Google Play Store/Apple App Store. The official name for the app is “Threads, an Instagram app” with a black logo.

Step 2: simply use your Instagram account to log in.

Step 3: Use your Instagram username, and verification will carry over, with the option to customize your profile specifically for Threads.

Step 4: You will default to a private profile when you join Threads. You can choose to follow the same accounts you do on Instagram and find more people who care about the same things you do.

Step 5: Upon logging into the Threads app, you will be presented with text posts from diverse users. In contrast to Twitter’s distinct “For You” and “Following” tabs, Instagram Threads adopts a unified page where both types of content are displayed together.

How to Start a Thread?

  • Launch the Threads app.
  • Tap on the Compose button located at the centre.
  • Enter your message in the designated text field(up to 500 Characters).
  • Tap the Post button to publish your thread.
  • It’s worth noting that Threads imposes a character limit of 500 for text-based content, while videos can have a maximum duration of up to 5 minutes.

Key Features of Threads APP

As per Meta’s official blog, It is said that all of its products take safety seriously, and the company will enforce Instagram’s Community Guidelines on content and interactions in the app.

  • It is a tool to enable positive, productive conversations.
  • The user can control who can mention or reply to him within Threads. Like on Instagram, users can add hidden words to filter out replies to their threads that contain specific words.
  • The user can unfollow, block, restrict, or report a profile on Threads by tapping the three-dot menu, and any accounts you’ve blocked on Instagram will automatically be blocked on Threads.

Threads provide a distinct and separate environment for sharing real-time updates and engaging in public discussions. The team behind Threads is actively working to ensure its compatibility with open and interoperable social networks, as they strongly believe that such networks have the potential to redefine the future of the internet.

In conclusion, Threads represents a promising alternative to Twitter, providing users with a more tailored and secure social media experience. Its potential impact on the social media landscape, particularly for figures like Elon Musk, who heavily rely on Twitter for communication, is substantial. As the platform continues to evolve and gain user adoption, it will be interesting to see how it challenges existing social media norms and influences the way we connect and engage online.
