The steps to replace Google Assistant with Gemini are:

Step 1: Download the Gemini App

On Android, you can opt into your Gemini mobile app from your Google Assistant and the Gemini app. On iOS, you can opt into Gemini from the Google app. You can find more details below. The Gemini mobile app may not be available for all languages, devices, or locations.

Step 2: Set Up the App

  • Open the Gemini app.
  • Tap Get Started in the bottom-right corner.
  • Review and agree to the terms and conditions.
  • You are good to go now!

Step 3: Choose Gemini As Your Default Assistant

  • Open the Google app.
  • Tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
  • Select Settings.
  • Go to Google Assistant.
  • Tap Apps under “Assistant Devices.”
  • Choose the default app.
  • Select Gemini from the list.

NOTE: Even after replacing Gemini with your default assistant, features like ‘At a Glance’ and driving experiences will remain connected to Google Assistant. Also, devices like smart speakers and wearables powered by Google Assistant won’t be affected by this change.

You can use text, voice, images, and even your camera to have endless conversations, explore ideas, and get answers. Other devices with Google Assistant built-in, such as smart displays, smart speakers, TVs, cars, smart watches, assistant-enabled headphones, and Pixel tablets, will continue to be directly powered by Google Assistant.
